In the book the Schwarzbein Principle she talks about people

regularly being diagnosed with diabetes after going on the heart

healthy diet. She is an endocrinologist and has worked with curing

diabetes with a low carb high fat diet.

Also, just to prove that it's not totally unheard of to your inlaws

you might pass them a copy of something like The Carbohydrate Addicts

Healthy Heart Program, by the Hellers, I believe that the most

important thing your fil could do would be to control his insulin,

for me WAP came after I accepted low carb, then gradually also high

fat.

Yes and a dear friend of mine, after heart bypass, fed cancer with

the low-fat diet prescribed for him which he was fearfully hanging

onto for dear life. Feh. He's gone now and can you tell I'm still mad

that he would not listen or research on his own.

Check out Dr. at trackyourplaque.com for a perspective that

uses nutrition to reverse heart disease - and not Ornish either.

I am in the SAME boat. My father-in-law also has had heart surgery,

takes cumiden, has diabetes, had prostate cancer... his wife is a

mess also including major memory loss...but their (other) children

won't take her off lipitor. I am so sad for my husband to have to

watch his parents go through all this.

Here are a few links I liked during my efforts.
