Kristi, Hi !

Greetings from the Philippines !

For our intake (ingestion), it highly desirable to use the good quality virgin

coconut oil (VCO), as well as for application on our skin and hair. A practical

test for a quality VCO: it is crystal white (liquid state) or snow white (solid

state at low temp., normally at lower than 24 degree celsius), with the weak

natural smell of coconut oil, and does not give a feeling of a " catch throat " (

or an itchy condition inside your throat upon drinking/ingesting the VCO).

While for cooking/frying use, it should be ok to use the unexpensive coconut

edible oil also called the odorless/tasteless RBD (refined, bleached and

deodorize), In both the VCO (derived or extracted from mature fresh coconut

meat) and RBD coconut oil (cooking oil from dried coconut meat or copra), the

very important lauric medium chain saturated fatty acid (C12) in coconut oil

contents (48 -52% lauric acid) remains the same.

Hoping, you get the practical application ot tips from this message.

Cheers,

Sev Magat

I use the expensive, virgin coconut oil for cooking and eating. Is it

okay to use the cheap processed kind for my skin and hair??

I recently got a gallon of Nutiva coconut oil for $49 including shipping from

here:

I think the quality compares well to similar forms from Tropical Traditions or

Wilderness Family Naturals.

I have not ordered from them so I don't know about the quality.
