Guest guest
So, where do you find alpaca and some of these other clothes for using in making stuff? We can get organic cotton and hemp from Frontier or Ecolution, but have never seen a place to get the others.
Guest guest
Actually on ebay there have been some hand made alpaca sweaters from Peru that are really lovely for a decent price. I've bought alpaca yarn there and gotten some that was really wonderful and naturally colored from the animal, and some that was more disappointing but still nice. If you knit there are a lot of sources to get great yarns to use. If you don't maybe you'd want to learn? It's a great relaxer, similar to meditation but you are getting something useful done at the same time. The best book I've seen for learning how to is " Stich N Bitch " . Unfortunate name for having it sitting around a bunch of little kids who can read, tho. Also check the Salvation Army thrift stores. I recently got a 100% cashmere sweater for $7; and my daughter got a lamb's wool/angora sweater for $2. If you don't like the colors you can dye them with Kool-Aid - it works on any animal fiber. I figure if they make it for kids to drink it can't be that toxic. You can google kool aid dye for directions. BTW, angora can be goat or rabbit fur. With the rabbits they comb out the undercoat when they shed. It's a fairly sustainable industry - the rabbit poo is excellent garden fertilizer and poorer families often keep some angora rabbits to supplement their incomes in third world countries. > > So, where do you find alpaca and some of these other clothes for using > in making stuff? Guest guest
, Have you talked to the ladies at Baer's in downtown Louisville? I used to call it the fabric Mecca. Desh
