Training Program on " Anti Retro Viral Therapy " was organized from 25th June 2007 to 29th June 2007 at SCADA Business Center, Patna. The Training Program was inaugurated by Dr Donn Colby, In Country Director, Vietnam- CDC- Harvard Medical School AIDS Partnership (VCHAP). Guest of Honour was Dr Devendra Prasad, Jt Director, BSACS who was representing Project Director, BSACS Mr K P Ramaiah. Dr Devendra Prasad lamented the role of RATNEI, IHO as a supplementing and complimenting force to BSACS. Dr. Anil Purohit, Executive Director, IHO; Dr. Diwakar Tejaswi, Medical Director, RATNEI, IHO; Dr. B.B. Verma, Regional Director, IHO, Dr. H. R. Mishra, President, IHO Advisory Board and were present on the occasion. More than 30 physicians participated in the training program. participants included were from Nagaland, Rajasthan, West Bengal representing ART centres, SACS besides local participants from Eastern India. International HIV / AIDS Experts like Dr Donn Colby, VCHAP; Dr. Joe , Moderator and Founder, AIDS India Forum and Advisor FXB International, Dr. Jagdish Harsh, Founder President HIV ATLAS from California, Dr Subha Raghwan, Director, SAATHI, Dr Shalu Puri, Head India Business Alliance, Global Health Initiative, World Economic Forum, Dr Ishwar Gilada, HIV AIDS Expert from Mumbai, Dr. Kanti Chandra Joshi a noted HIV Pediatrician from Jodhpur representing Global Foundation for Humanity participated and shared his experience with the faculty and participants. Dr. Zohmingthanga from Mizoram Civil Hospital also shared his experiences. Rakhi Nair of WHARF from Wockhardt presented her counseling Techniques. Dr K K Sharan, ENT Surgeon and Dr Kiran Sharan, Consultant Pediatrician delivered lectures during the sessions. Topics covered in Module 6 included: Natural Course of HIV Infection (Dr Donn Colby), Reducing the frequency of errors using information technology in treatment of HIV/AIDS and related disease (Dr Jagdish Harsh); Issues related to Privacy, Information Technology and Health Care in the Field of HIV/AIDS ( Dr Jagdish Harsh); TB & HIV/AIDS – National and Global perspective ( Dr Shaloo Puri ); First Clinic Visit for the Patient with HIV Infection ( Dr Donn Colby); HIV infection and Associated Nutritional Issues (Dr Subha); Prevention of OI's in HIV/AIDS ( Dr Donn Colby); Comprehensive Management of HIV AIDS (Dr Ishwar Gilada) ; HIV/AIDS related Stigma, Discrimination and Rights Violations ( Dr Joe ); ARV Introduction ( Dr Donn Colby); ARV: Doses and Side Effects (Dr Donn Colby); Prevention of Parent To Child Transmission of HIV Infection (Dr Subha) Counseling Techniques and successful Examples (Mr Rakhi Nair); Routine Monitoring of the ARV Patient (Dr Donn Colby); Ethical Implications of HIV Interventions ( Dr Joe ); Changing ARV due to Side Effects/Toxicity (Dr Donn Colby); OIs and Starting ARV ( Dr Donn Colby); Basic Issues in ART (Video Presentation Courtsey CIPLA); ENT, Head and Neck Menifestation in HIV (Dr K. K. Sharan); Scope and Challenges of Internet mediated Communication in HIV Response: (Dr Joe ); Long Term Treatment Complications ( Dr Donn Colby); Resistance Testing (Dr Donn Colby); Managing Diarrhoea and Fever in HIV/AIDS: Video Presentation Courtsey CIPLA); HIV AIDS in Children (Dr Kiran Sharan) Ms Ishdeep Kohli, Evaluation and Monitoring Consultant, Mumbai and Mr Sumeet Srivastave, Coordinator, IHO USA, were also present during the occasion. During the closing session on 29th June, Dr Diwakar Tejaswi, Medical Director RATNEI, answered different questions of participants about HIV / AIDS. Mr. Gyan Ranjan, Board Member BNP+ and Mr C K Mishra, State Programme Officer, UNAIDS Bihar also participated briefly. Renowned Physician, Padamshree Dr (Prof) Gopal Prasad Sinha, Dr. A.K. Singh, Dean-cum-A/Director, I.G.I.M.S. were the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour respectively on the occasion of certificate distribution ceremony.
