Culver City is a suburb of Los Angeles. (Actually, it might technically be part of LA, but I'm not sure exactly how things are organized out there.) Here's Greyhound's list of California stations. <http://www.greyhound.com/home/TicketCenter/locations.asp?state=ca > Here's a map of Culver City and its immediate environs. <http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Culver+City,+CA,+USA & sa=X & oi=map & ct=title > And here's the address of Greyhound's Los Angeles station, though it's possible they have a closer and more convenient one. 1716 E 7TH ST Los Angeles, CA 90021. I hope this helps! -
Guest guest
- Can you get her on the phone? Call Greyhound a book a ticket for her with a credit card -- or I think you can also do it on the website. Greyhound (tel: (800) 231 2222 (toll-free); website: www.greyhound.com), runs a reliable and frequent service to and from every major city in the USA, as well as locations in Canada and Mexico. There are six Greyhound bus stations in Los Angeles; the main station is at 1716 East Seventh Street. I would have her go to that one -- it is downtown. Here is a google map with directions: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d & hl=en & geocode= & saddr=culver+city,+ca & daddr=1716+\ East+Seventh+Street,+los+angeles,+ca & sll=34.029331,-118.396225 & sspn=0.127753,0.2\ 12173 & ie=UTF8 & ll=34.0299,-118.316231 & spn=0.127753,0.212173 & z=12 She can take a bus to get from Culver City to downtown: http://www.metro.net/default.asp It's 18 miles from Culver City to the Greyhound bus station. It may take her a few hours though on the bus, due to traffic. I would also call Southwest airlines. It's probably not too much more for a plane ticket and she could take a bus to LAX. Yep -- Southwest is $225 for a ticket today. It looks like a Greyhound ticket is $99. Guest guest
, Culver city is just south of the intersection of freeways 10 - Santa fwy & 405 San Diego fwy. The LAX airport is just a little further south on the 405, from Culver city. Hope you get your sister back safe & sound, you may consider a desert retreat to keep her off the streets & detox her from drugs, unfortunately hospitals only counter drug the drugs. Let us know of her well-being, OK. Sincerely, Jim <beauty4ashesisaiah61@...> wrote: Here is a copy of my post on another board: You have posted you are in LA right? Do you know where Culver City is and can i ask you for a favor? It is really urgent. My sister who is Scizophrenic took off a couple of yrs ago. Left our hometown in Oregon and no one had heard from her except a call during xmas the first yr saying she was in LA at X shelter (had hichhiked down there) and wanted my mom to come and get her. My mom did not of course as she does not want to deal with her - too busy partying herself. Sister constantly goes off her meds and get's back into drugs and wanders the streets. Well my aunt called the shelter she was last seen at and they directed her to the local authorites. She called them, who then tracked my sister down either in jail or the psyche unit. Anyhow she has finally been released and called my mom from Culver City asking for a bus ticket home. My mom went to the local grey hound and they do not have Culver City on their maps and the lady told my mom it means they do not have a grey hound with-in 100 miles of the area. If anyone is near there, if they can help us find another bus system like grey hound that can take her to the nearest grey hound or a bus line that can get her back here etc. I do not know of any other bus system besides grey hound. Any help/ideas on how to get her home would be great. I have been so worried about her and it kills me my mom never did anything about this. We were stationed over seas for a few yrs (military) and have been home about 8 months now i did not even know about she was truly missing until this christmas. I knew she left but did not know that no one had any info on her all this time. We are trying to get her home now as she phoned today that she is out. Apparently she is not doing real well she was out 3 days ago, phoned then and we heard nothing from since. Phoned today and had to go to the hospital as she was sick and fainted shorlty after talking to my mom the other day. Just released from the hospital today and sounded coherent etc. and we want to get her home before her mind goes again and she wanders some more. TIA to anyone who can help Well done is better than well said..., Jim Igo --------------------------------- Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Mobile. Try it now. Guest guest
Thanks i did get that far the grey hound site nad google map. Just was not sure from there where to go, how to pinoint the nearest location since the Grey hound site did not list anything but LA. I did find the 2 nearest Grey hounds near Culver though on mapquest - it helped much more. I do not have an exact location of where she is but we know that there is two about 10 miles outside of Culver. Now it is a matter of trying to figure out how to get her from where she is to the bus station. She does not have any money or ID etc. W/o seeing i don't know if there is a walking route etc. She could hitch a ride again and hopefully that will be safe. Why the Bus station here could not pull up any info that there is bus stations with in 10 miles of Culver is quite irritating. Especialyl that it meant there was not any for at least 100. I had not thought to google the areas until after i posted the message. Anyhow off to look up numbers for that area and call places to see if the police or some other agency can pick her up and take her to one of the bus stations. Guest guest
Thanks , I know what you mean it infuriates me to no end that they treat wit hmore drugs. My whole family is the type that is very complacent and no one wants to take the burden on of taking care of her nor would they pool the money to send her soemwhere to get her better. I would take her in if i did not have 4 kids baby - 11. But she is known to have violent episodes and i fear being having her around my children etc. My husband and i are torn between taking her in and trying to get her detoxed and feeding her a proper diet etc... like GAPS but i can't trust that she would not harm us/kids. I worry for my kids sake and that they need us. If i did not have kids to worry about i would not be concerned about my safety at all. She needs help and the only help she gets is more medication inbetween street drug sprees. > In , Igo <jimi761@...> wrote: > > , > > Culver city is just south of the intersection of freeways 10 - Santa fwy & 405 San Diego fwy. That is a good idea. Also, if she can find $1.25, that is how much the city bus costs -- which will get her to the Greyhound station. You could also call a cab company and see if they would be willing to take a credit card over the phone to pick her up and take her to the airport or Greyhound station. You know... that's a good idea I just had. You could call Super Shuttle, pay with a credit card, and they will come pick her up wherever she is and take her to the airport. Yes, it will cost more for the flight ($225 vs. the Greyhound fare -- which says $99) but at least she could get on a shuttle pretty quick and get on a plane TODAY. With the Greyhound option, it may be tomorrow morning before she can get on a bus. It's only 2:30 pm now. That's what I would do -- so she's not on the street at night. Do you have a way to call her to find out exactly where she is so they can pick her up? I hope she gets home safe. Please keep us posted. Guest guest
Hi, The communities of Wilmington, Compton, & Watts in general are not much different than much of Culver City. The film, FREEDOM WRITER, was an excellent account of gangs in the Wilmington area, & is worth a watch, re-watch. Living among gangs was compared to survivors of the holecost & featured the MUSEUM OF TOLERANCE, as having an inpact on highschool gang members. Guest guest
That may be true but... a few weeks ago I was at the library in West LA. The woman working there said she lived in Ingleside and on her way to work that morning, she witnessed a child get shot on the street -- this was a " drive-by " shooting -- someone in a car. It happened right on the sidewalk. I think, if you can afford it, I'd get her on a Super Shuttle to the airport. Guest guest
She has called by payphone or from the hospital. We are not sure. My mom did not 'think' to ask her stuff like what most concerned people would ask. Very irritating. I just looked up the main station it is actually under 10 miles from Culver and was one of the ones we thought she could walk too. I called my mom to give her the down town station address. But she has not heard back from my sister. So now i am going to try to google hospitals regualr nad mental health wise for Culver to see if she is still around one of them. I don't get why she did not ask her al lthis stuff, get a number, and tell her to stay put until she figured soemthing out! UGH. She does not have any money or id so she can't fly. She is going to have to ask a stranger for city bus money. I am hoping if i can find the hospital she was just at they can help get her to the Grey hound or on a city bus headed there. Thanks! > > - > > Can you get her on the phone? Guest guest
Legally in the state of CA, hospitals are required to provide either bus or taxi fare for those discharged without a source of transportation. Guest guest
You're right I meant Inglewood. I confuse it w/ Ingleside -- that's in SF where I used to live. Guest guest
My mom talked to the hospital and they are not going to release her for a couple more days. Either my sister or mom misunderstood about when she was getting released, or sister was trying to leave the hospital w/o being released - she does this. They are releasing her on Wed. they will take her to the station and will stay and ensure she gets on the greyhound. Thanks!

Guest guest
Big relief. Keep in mind that mental health facilities are known to discharge people on the basis of how long their insurance will last, more than attaining true wellness. That is why they call the mental health system a revolving door, the same patients keep coming back to the hospitals over & over again for as long as their insurance or other financial means will last. In CA the law states a mental heath hospital stay can be extended if the superior court determines the patient to be acutely dangerous to themselves, others or gravely dissabled. Your sister is clearly in denial of those three criteria & that is why she has scarred everybody into her notion of releasing herself to the streets.
