Guest guest
I had a heavy metals analysis done recently and came up very high in arsenic (I think it was a liver supplement I had been taking which I have since discontinued) as well as a few other heavy metals. It was recommended that I take 50 mg of Iodoral (iodine -- which I was also deficient in) for one year. The doctor (Dr. Flechas) said that iodine is a powerful chelator of heavy metals. He said I should be cleared of the metals within a years time. For a child, I would do a much smaller dose. You can use Lugol's drops. That is what I give my daughter who is 16 months old. I give her about 6 mg of Lugol's per day. The other big thing I would recommend is the GAPS diet. The fact that the child is only 5 and is not chelating heavy metals makes me think there is most likely inadequate gut flora. I would get the book by Dr. -McBride and try the GAPS diet and Biokult (a probioitic). http://gapsdiet.com/ Part of the GAPS diet is juicing. Juicing fresh vegetables and fruits seems to be extremely effective in helping the body to chelate toxins. Beet kvass is also a wonderful aid to help the body detox. I'm also taking chlorella which is a detoxifier -- but I don't know if that is appropriate for children. Mercury is, I believe, detoxified with glutathione, and also by selenium, though I think it is transferred from the selenium to glutathione before excretion. So selenium (ideally as selenocysteine), vitamin B6 (ideally as pyridoxal), a bioavailable source of cyteine (either undenatured whey protein, n-acetyl-cysteine, or a lot of raw protein foods), and milk thistle. Probably magnesium. Possibly infrared sauna and sunlight. Chris

Andy Cutler's protocol is particularly effective, and what I recommend. And check all possible sources of heavy metals, including your drinking water, toys, and other things your child comes into contact with. We recently discovered my copper and arsenic is off the charts, and found out it's in our drinking water here. Guest guest
Excellent recommendations, the only things I'd add are B2 (Riboflavin) and B3 (Niacinamide) as cofactors for glutathione recycling. -Lana > Mercury is, I believe, detoxified with glutathione, and also by > selenium, though I think it is transferred from the selenium to > glutathione before excretion.
