Lactic acid and exercise

I always wondered about the correlation between lactic acid and

exercise. I thought it was bad in the muscles but knew it was good in

food. I knew athletes like to drink pickle brine which is rich in

lactic acid to help with cramps and endurance.

I don't know if this is common knowledge among NT'ers, but I read a

Q & A of Dr. Tom Cowan stating that he didn't know why lactic acid would

be good for the muscles.

Well I found some really interesting information here -

http://www.nytimes.com/2006/05/16/health/nutrition/16run.html

and heres a quote

" Lactic acid is actually a fuel, not a caustic waste product. Muscles

make it deliberately, producing it from glucose, and they burn it to

obtain energy. "

Interesting eh?
