Guest guest
On those occasions I have healthy kefir grains to distribute, I only ask for compensation to cover shipping costs and associated materials - shouldn't be more than $5-$10. My kefir grains are pretty sad right now (haven't quite figured out what I did to them) so I'm reluctant to share until they recuperate and expand in both volume and size. -jennifer On Mar 26, 2008, at 11:42 AM, jmr1290 wrote: > > Now I'm afraid to ask on these other local groups. Guest guest
I just got a SCOBY off of freecycle. I was totally shocked I'd be able to get one there, but I met this really nice lady that does a lot of fermentation and hopefully (when I can afford it) I'll join their raw milk co-op. So, it couldn't hurt to ask at freecycle. -Lana > Now I'm afraid to ask on these other local groups. Guest guest
Hi, Joy, I just posted about this on my blog the other day. I have some extra kombucha SCOBYs. I do ask for postage. I had a lot of takers on my blog -- and I haven't counted up all my SCOBYs. If I don't have enough, though, I have a neighbor who also has extras she wants to get rid of. Please send me your address off list if you want one and then you can just send me a check for the postage after you receive it. I have some kefir grains but mine are also not multiplying very fast. Hopefully I will have more soon. Ann Marie
Guest guest
For kefir, check out this group. It's very active and a lot of folks share all the time for just shipping. Just put where you are, many times you can get locally without even having to pay shipping. Kefir_making/ For Kombucha SCOBYs: kombucha tea/ Also, store bought kefir has a lot of additives, often powdered milk and sugar among other things, and usually has no yeast because of some state laws, so the taste never varies. You can get an idea of the taste of kefir from these, but it's not exactly like what you make at home. If grains have been shipped or if they've been dehydrated, it may take several batches to get the kefir balanced. The 2 groups I mentioned above are very active and very helpful with questions. Guest guest
I was able to grow some nice " mushrooms " from GTS raw, organic Kombucha. I bought mine at Whole Foods, but you can find other outlets at their web site: http://www.gtskombucha.com/ > > Hi, Joy, > > I just posted about this on my blog the other day. > > I have some extra kombucha SCOBYs.
