A request for help/information on the effects of farming and other practices

Friends,

I am seeking to put together a number of first person testimonials on

how factory farming, mountain top removal or other similar practices

have hurt individuals, families, churches, etc.

The goal is to provide some objective, first hand evidence that

our " American lifestyles " of throw away consumption, low quality food

improperly raised food, pesticides and the whole chemical army, etc.

does actually tangible hurt our neighbors.

So we are looking for suggestions on how to get in touch with people

who may have stories to share or who would want to write a short

story for us to use when talking with other people about these

issues, since many people's first reaction about encouragements like

we should eat and consume responsibly say that it has no effect on

others.

Also, any studies that you know of on how chemical ag. hurts

children, etc. would be appreciated. Again, my goal is to collect a

wide array of first hand evidence.

Much thanks!

You can look at www.christiansforthemountains.org about the

mountaintop removal mining. They have a video they were giving out

for free that had interviews that were quite touching and could

probably put you in touch with people affected if you look for

the " contact us " on their website and ask.

I was going to tell you to look up Pennock too, a PA kid who

died after a neighbor used sewer sludge for fertilizer on his farm,

but the information on that story has been buried. But you can look

here for some similar stories:

http://www.sludgevictims.com/States/Pennsylvania_sludge_victims.html

There are some great films to show, " Affluenza " can be rented from

Bullfrog films by nonprofits for $35

" Garbage " can be found on www.bravenewtheaters.com for pretty cheap,

I forgot the price, but $10 - $25 range I think.

You can also look at the effects of DES on farm daughters (it is a

form of stilbestrol hormone used in cattle, chickens, etc. for better

production)

http://www.cdc.gov/DES/hcp/information/daughters/risks_daughters.html

and that is from the government who is known to minimize things like

this! There is a documentary on that as well, that is very touching,

a lot of these girls are getting historectomies because of the high

risk of them getting cancer. This was made by a DES daughter and is

called ''A Healthy Baby Girl.''

First-hand, I know that when I leave my upscale suburban neighborhood

to go to rural areas, I see noticable differences in the number of

people with malformed facial features, and can only guess it is due

to the farm chemicals they live with, because I KNOW my neighbors

don't eat all that well- half of them feed their kids chicken nuggets

about half the meals and pizza the other half.

You may also find the short www.themeatrix1.com useful and

entertaining.
