Guest guest
I wanted to get people's opinion. Yesterday, I got back the results of a lab test and it reports a high value for the Fasting Glucose Tolerance Test, 103 for a range of 60-99 Now, this doesn't make sense to me. I have over the past 10 years eaten a diet similar to the one described in Native Nutrition. Let me emphasize, never before now have I received a glucose lab anywhere near high. When I think of changes I have made over the past year, the only thing I can think of is that I have reduced the cereals in my diet. I am probably close to being Paleolithic, except for once a week I do eat spaghetti. I also drink a Post-workout drink (relatively high carb) after my weight training, but I was doing that before. The only thing that I think could have skewed the fasting blood test was that I did take 600 mgs of magnesium before retiring to be the evening before. Oh, there is no history (that I know of) of diabetes in my family. I am 48 years old. What do you guys think? I am pretty freaked out about this so any help would be appreciated. Guest guest
Don't worry about those numbers. That is not even considered high at all. Thats only 3 digits from normal. Was the doctor concerned or something? Again I would not even bat an eyelash at those numbers and I know my doctor that I am seeing now for pregnancy wouldn' t either. Nor would my naturpath or doctors I worked for in the past. Your ok. The main thing for blood sugar is high carb, sugar diet. Perhaps not enough liquid drinking? I just want to put your mind at ease that that is not really considered to be enough out of range where it is a concern. At least according to traditional medicine anyway. Someone else may have more answers but thats my " traditional medicine answer " for whatever its worth. )
Guest guest
, Thanks for your kind response. Well, I happened to be in Elephant Pharmacy yesterday and they had a naturopathic doctor on duty. I asked her about the glucose test and she made two recommendations, one that seems good and the other that (to me) sounds a bit more dubious. First, she recommended that I take Glucose Optimizer by Jarrow. These tablets contain cinnamon, fenugreek, bilberry and a number of other herbs and vitamins to improve glucose sensitivity. Secondly, she recommended more fiber in my diet. To this end, she suggested psyllium husk and that I include more vegetables in my diet. I have no truck with the more vegetables bit (but I am not going to add oatmeal as she recommended) but is psyllium husk a good idea? I should think that the fats I am eating are sufficient for slowing down release of sugar. Is there something I am missing here in her logic? What do you make of her suggestions and what would you recommend I do to improve glucose sensitivity? Thanks, --- and <blessedby6children@...> wrote: > Don't worry about those numbers.
