Its lasted over 2 years and is still going strong. Sweating is one of the best ways to remove toxins from your body, and many toxins that are hard to get rid of come out easily in a sauna. -
Guest guest
Is a sauna really the best way? Massage therapists have told me that the skin is the largest toxin eliminating organ. It might be the biggest surface area, but don't the kidneys and liver do most of the toxin eliminating? I'd be interested in what others think about sauna as a method of detoxing. Regarding detoxing, we are in liver/gall bladder season in TCM, and this is the best time to do a liver detox. Guest guest
www.juicefasting.org is the best. Also see Harrod Buhner's book " The Fasting Path " about the physical effects of fasting, very interesting. I just tried to fast through lent, made it all but the last week - I think from that experience the majority of the benefits of fasting happen the first 14 days, after that more stuff happens, but you also start to lose benefits due to lack of nutrients for the processes to happen, so maybe a couple two-week or shorter fasts instead of a long one. You can certainly keep up your work and daily activities (unless they are very strenuous) doing a juice fast, and most fasting experts say water fasting is way too difficult for a first time faster. The only problem is the possibility of " bonking " as they say in the bicycling world - you could use up all the energy stored in your liver/tissues and just run out of steam, but if you only exercise lightly (walking is fine as are short runs but not long strenuous exercise!) you should be fine. My favorite for being away from home a lot is the Master Cleanse because it is so easy - you squeeze fresh lemons, add grade " B " (important) maple syrup and some cayenne. You shouldn't do that for too long tho, but a week is probably ok and you can mix it up with other juices for longer, like carrot, apple, etc. I did it for 5 days and the last day felt like my electrolytes were getting low. You can also look up " Switchel " which is an old-time beverage made from vinegar and honey or other sweetner. Very refreshing and cleansing, especially if you add raw grated ginger, which is also cleansing. At the end of my long fast, my gut felt backed up, and it turned out I'd gotten magnesium deficient. Took 4 capsules over two days and am completely back to normal. One more thing - it's recommended to ease yourself off of fasting slowly to allow the bacteria in the gut time to adjust. May pay off to think ahead and start some kimchi (takes only a week) or get kefir grains so you can get the gut off to a good start once you start eating again. Fasting depopulates the gut and just after one is a great time to introduce the gut " super bacteria " and let them really take hold so they can prevent the bad ones from getting a good start.
