Guest guest
There is a wonderful program called Radiant Recovery by Dr. Kathleen DesMaisons that uses nutrition to heal biochemical addictive behaviors, and cutting has a lot in common with all that. www.radiantrecovery.com (I have no financial interest in recommending this). Dr. DesMaisons' premise is that there are some people whose bodies are predisposed to biochemical imbalance, through heredity and then how we eat. Basically we have lower serotonin and endorphins than the general population, and more volatile blood sugar. This is for starters. And then when we eat SAD, it all really disregulates. What can happen with cutters is they find that cutting temporarily raises endorphins and serotonin, and they feel better for a while. Until the crash later and it starts again. This is both biochemical and behavioral, and Dr. DesMaisons' program helps with both. Same thing goes on with starving and purging. And there's always the association of mental disorders with lack of good fats, imbalance of o-6 versus o-3, and all that. So nutrition plays there too.
