Guest guest
For me, the antidote for nausea during pregnancy was eating. It always helped to eat -- esp. high fat foods. Cheese, milk, eggs, ice cream. I think my body was craving saturated fats. Guest guest
I think being " clean on the inside " really helped me - I went through a lot of cleansing before I even tried to get pregnant and then started eating only good stuff - I didn't have any nausea, only very hightened sence of smell... But I think most of the times it depends mostly on your genes, hormones etc Elena > > Anyone here have any input on what causes nausea during pregnancy? > > I thought I read somewhere about ph, but that was long ago and I'm not > sure it was accurate. > > I have a friend who is only a few weeks along, but DOES NOT want this > pregnancy to be like her last one > > Thank you all. >
Guest guest
Hmm well I don't know -- I didn't do any cleansing. I drank and smoked and ate SAD before I conceived -- and the baby was a surprise pregnancy. We were not trying to conceive (although we were very glad when we found out about the pregnancy). I found that when I ate *before* I got too hungry, esp. foods with lots of saturated animals fats, like cheeseburgers and eggs and cheese, lots of milk and ice cream, I did not get nauseous. If I waited until I was really hungry to eat, I would get nauseous. And I was hungry all the time! DH called me a hobbit because I had to have breakfast, then " elevensies " then lunch, then a post-lunch snack, and so on. One time in my first trimester, we went out for dinner at a steakhouse and I ate him under the table. I ate my whole steak and the sides -- and ordered cheesecake to go! In fact, it was my excessive hunger that made me realize I was pregnant in the first place. I ate a whole large pizza in the span of 12 hours or so. I started to feel nauseous, and then I ate more pizza and felt better. That is when my best girlfriend knew I was pregnant -- she said, " Eating pizza does not help to make nausea go away -- unless you are pregnant. " Even though I was not WAPF (had never heard of it -- wish I had!), I think it was all the saturated animal fats that helped me not only stave off the nausea, but it also helped me have a healthy baby despite the fact that I was not eating WAPF. I've never been one for low-fat, never once worried abut cholesterol, always subscribed to a " Child " way of eating, and have always eaten generous amounts of real butter, lots of cheese, eggs, meats, etc. Speaking of Child, one time she was cooking on her show. She said to her audience, " If you are not comfortable with the amount of butter in this recipe, it's OK -- you can use less -- just substitute cream. Guest guest
One theory I've heard is that the growing baby is now consuming blood sugar, really all fuel, along with mom. Faster-than-usual drops in blood sugar cause nausea in some people. That's why crackers are a good antidote (they raise blood sugar really fast) but a better one is not to get that close to empty on the fuel. Also why nausea in the morning - we wake up on empty. I, sad to say, used goldfish crackers. Nowadays I would have a bedtime snack with good sat fat. Guest guest
B Vitamin Supplements did wonders for me. Nutritional yeast is probably the best way. I couldn't eat unless I made myself take these regularly then I was ok. And skipping meals or not snacking definitely made it worse. Dawn From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of inasnit@... Guest guest
> Anyone here have any input on what causes nausea during pregnancy? Nausea in pregnancy has a vast variety of causes. Toxins, body burden, overloaded liver that is having trouble processing all the extra hormones, being deficient in certain minerals or vitamins, sluggish pancreas, food allergies, leaky gut, undiagnosed celiac disease, and a whole host of other things can cause it or worsen it. I can give you a lot of good information on nausea in pregnancy. I'll send you some links off-list. But the main thing is that you MUST determine the cause before you can figure out how to stop or prevent it. And there isn't one cure-all or help, because it all depends on what is causing the nausea. You see, it's real easy for people to just say 'eat more TF foods' or 'do XXX to prevent the nausea' when all of the TF foods in the world might not fix the underlying problem. Especially if you're reacting due to a food allergy. For example, all of the raw milk in the world won't stop nausea if you're sick because you're allergic to milk! And all of the soaked grains in the world won't help if you're allergic to wheat. I went through hyperemesis after having been on a TF diet for 2 years. All of the nourishing foods and raw milk in the world didn't stop it, because I was an undiagnosed celiac with a severe milk allergy. I went through 22 weeks of throwing up over 40 times a day, dog sick, couldn't function. And I had 'helpful' people online on TF groups giving me all sorts of bad advice that didn't work or made the problem worse because they didn't understand that the nausea form pregnancy can have many underlying causes, not just one. Guest guest
I agree with Kerry Ann, with the caveat that generic 'morning sickness' is usually a b vitamin issue, and helped by protein and fat in the am, when you can keep it down. I did Floradix, but nutritional yeast is great too. Desh
Guest guest
Thank you ALL so very much for all this input. I may be asking for more of it in the near future as time marches on But I want to thank all of you and I will be passing this great info along asap. > > I agree with Kerry Ann, with the caveat that generic 'morning sickness' > is usually a b vitamin issue, and helped by protein and fat in the am, > when you can keep it down. Guest guest
I am writing to give you my empathy! As much as you may be suffering now, remember that it will get better. Reading these posts takes me back to my pregnancy 5 years ago which made me severely nauseated for 5+ months. NOTHING helped. I mean NOTHING. At the time, the worst thing was all of the advice from people who hadn't been there I felt like nobody understood my misery nor believed that nothing worked for me. What I really needed was serious emotional support and help with cleaning the house, etc. Now I believe that my severe nausea was a result of my very toxic body. I was very unhealthy at the time of conception. Since my daughter's birth, I have been cleansing and detoxing regularly as well as eating a healthy, clean diet, keeping toxins out of my body as much as I can, etc. My health has improved dramatically, and I deeply hope my next pregnancy is better. Take care of yourself and take things one day at a time. It will get better!!
