I just ran across the NowPublic web site that has people powered news:

http://www.nowpublic.com/

It appears that anyone can join and post video, photos, audio, and/or

text news related information. They have a health section.

They don't seem to have any advertising, so it's not obvious to me

who's paying to support the web site.

Could be a way to promote good health info.

Has anyone here tried it out?

A well-funded start-up -- they got $10.6 million in their first round

last year.

So I guess they haven't integrated any ads yet. I don't think Myspace

or Facebook had ads in the beginning either. Nor did Google. Same deal

with Skype.

Since they are funded, they don't have to earn revenue yet -- they

just have build traffic. Once they get enough users, they can

integrate advertising. And/or sell the company.

They have contacted me a couple of times on Flickr to post my photos

on their site -- I just haven't had time to mess with it yet. But I

think I should. You're right -- it's a good way to get information out

there.

I love their name.

Thanks Ann Marie,

That explains the lack of adds. The concept of people powered

internet news is interesting. Maybe will pick it up like they

did Flickr.

Yep, that's probably their exit strategy -- either , Google or

Microsoft.
