Guest guest
Hi Laurie, I had a very severe loss of hair in my 20's. In fact, I lost it all in huge clumps. I've also seen this type of hair loss in my grandchildren. It's called alopecia. In our case, we just had to wait until the hair grew back. If it's not as drastic as this, I've also lost hair when I added a new med of changed my prescriptions in any way. Have you made any changes? Guest guest
You know since you mentioned it, I have been complaining for about 3 -4 weeks now that I am loosing a lot of hair, don't know why. I have been lowered from law gr to .075 gr. thyroid, maybe that's it. Nail and skin real dry also. I can't have another blood test for 1 month because of all the chemicals the in my blood. hair > Hi all > > I need some help. Do any of you have or had a problem with loosing lots of > hair. Guest guest
Laurie, I don't have a clue as to how to help you, but I can tell you that both and I have lost hair. went almost completely bald about 4 years ago and the pediatrician sent us to the dermatologist who recommended a type of drop for her head and her hair came back. They weren't 100% sure that she didn't have this thing called Tricatilamania (that is not spelled right, but it's how its sounds)and possibly was pulling at it or twirling it in her sleep because she has sleep apnea. I, on the other hand, have no idea why I lose mine sometimes. I do it quite often and did this after I gave birth to . I hope you get some answers. If you do, I would be interested in finding out what it is. Good luck!! __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Laurie, I also have problems with losing hair. Mine is pretty thick, but in the last 6 months, I have lost a lot and my bathroom floor is always covered with hair after my shower. I am not sure why, but one doctor and also my hairdresser said it was because of the change in meds. It can do weird things with hair. I am not sure if this is the case with you, but maybe going off the supplements for your surgery, and then back on, put some stress on the body that triggered something to lose the hair. Just a suggestion here! a hair >Hi all > >I need some help. Do any of you have or had a problem with loosing lots of >hair. Guest guest
I have lost the majority of my hair twice - and had some hair loss other times. The first time I lost my hair I was 10 years old and somehow got a fever of 108. I went almost bald, I had very very thin hair and it would come out by the handfulls. The second time I was 19 and had a major crash, one that landed me in the hospital for two weeks. I lost my hair in circular patches - I had about 10 - 13, 2 inch round bald spots on my head. I went to a dermatologist and he said I had " Alopecia Areata " . He said that it can be brought on by major changes to the body, or in my case, major crashes. During other significant crashes I have had hair thining, but not the actual bald spots. I use selenium when it starts to thin, and when I start to get the bald spots I use lidex hair gel. It works really well With the selenium, however, you can't take it all the time because over an extended period of time it can actually cause the hair to thin instead of encouraging hair growth The Lidex is prescription, however. Guest guest
i seem to go through spurts of losing hair, it started about 4 yrs ago. Ive had 2 times that it seemed really bad over 3-4 months, including just recently. My dr also called it alopecia and said it was probably caused by a combination of low thyroid, low electrolytes (potassium, etc), and possibly lupus causing patches of severely dry skin and also skin lesions which result in it falling out. I also have a problem with my eyebrows, i barely have any! lol dr blamed it on thyroid. Said also my sun sensitivity might have a cause in it too. I've always had really thick hair until recently where its also thinned and started breaking. I hate washing my hair and having such big clumps come out. Also an area of my hair i recently lost was my widows peak, just thought it was weird that whole front part came out. Anyways, wish i knew what could help, my dr seems to think synthroid, plaquenil (for lupus) and micro-k and other supplements should help, they did, but i think have stopped. I just have tried to wear my hair in particular styles and parts to help, cut it short kinda short etc. and with my eyebrows, well, im stuck drawing my own lol. guess this is just another fun mito symptom. Guest guest
According to my medical books, loss following child birth is common. Aren't you glad you are " normal " in this respect. As for the other times and , I guess we will both have to be good detectives. Thanks for the input. You, too, ! laurie > > Reply-To: > Date: Tue, 5 Mar 2002 13:38:26 -0800 (PST) > To: > Subject: Re: hair > > Laurie, > > I don't have a clue as to how to help you, but I can > tell you that both and I have lost hair. > went almost completely bald about 4 years ago and the > pediatrician sent us to the dermatologist who > recommended a type of drop for her head and her hair > came back. Guest guest
Nikki Thanks for this info. You have made some really good observations about yourself. I have been wondering if it was due to my being off my supplements a month before my biopsy. I normally take selenium, so that and the mild crash I had all that month may have been the cause. I guess I will have to be patient and hopefully it will come back. Thanks for your insight. laurie > > I have lost the majority of my hair twice - and had some hair loss > other times. > > The first time I lost my hair I was 10 years old and somehow got a > fever of 108. Guest guest
Laurie, Neither mom or I felt lost her hair due to this tricotilomania- however you spell it- LOL. I think she just had some sort of stress or something going on. I had just given birth to Branden and I wonder if worrying about her new baby brother who was so sick had something to do with it. He was so sick when he was first born and really up until about almost a year after he had his Nissen Fundoplication and she cares so much about him. Even with all her learning issues and the fact that cognitively she functions somewhere around 5 or 6 she still is a wonderful big sister to him and I think always will be. __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Alice I think it must have happened when I was off my supplements before my biopsy. I guess I will wait and see. It seems like it might be slowing down a bit. I'm glad I'm not alone in this. I had plenty to spare, but no longer. Guest guest
a Thanks for sharing your experience. I am not going to panic yet. When my students start to notice, then it is time to have a dermatologist look at the situation. laurie > > Reply-To: > Date: Tue, 5 Mar 2002 18:01:29 -0600 > To: < > > Subject: Re: hair > > Laurie, > I also have problems with losing hair. Guest guest
Adrienne Thanks for the info. My thyroid levels are in the low normal level, but my potassium is low. I've increased the potassium, so maybe this might help. My windows peak is still there. Now if I could find a way to get rid of collicks, I'd be pleased. laurie > From: moonchild62579@... > Reply-To: > Date: Wed, 6 Mar 2002 07:22:27 EST > To: > Subject: Re: hair > > i seem to go through spurts of losing hair, it started about 4 yrs ago. Guest guest
I have a feeling that Branden feels the same way about . laurie > > Reply-To: > Date: Wed, 6 Mar 2002 06:52:44 -0800 (PST) > To: > Subject: Re: hair > > Laurie, > > Neither mom or I felt lost her hair due to this > tricotilomania- however you spell it- LOL.
