Guest guest
While I agree manganese is rare in animal foods (mollusks are about the only decent source) - Just because something is not readily available in the food supply doesn't mean it is over-rated or unnecessary. Blue mussels (cooked) contain nearly 100% of the DV per ounce. It would take significantly more oysters or clams to obtain the same amount of Mn though... Seems to me a lot of the foods in NAPD were Mn rich... Rye and Oats at about 1.5 oz uncooked meets the DV. Wheat isn't far behind. Around 2.5 oz of coconut meat gives the DV, as does 1 cup of coconut milk (or 5 oz coconut cream). As these were staple foods for the cultures in NAPD, I'd have a hard time believing they were not at least meeting the minimum DV for Mn. -Lana " There is nothing more useful than sun and salt. Guest guest
Interesting suggestions, and Lana. Too bad coconut oil does not contain manganese. I eat scallops and shrimp, but maybe I should switch to mussels. I will look into wheat germ. Wikipedia claims Sanfuastino bottled water has 1.13 mg/L of manganese in it. I haven't been able to find confirmation on Sanfuastino's website or other sources. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sanfaustino > > > > > , I suspect that the need for vitamin E decreases with lowering > > of PUFA intake.
