UHC and ACN CUT our reimbursement in WA State to $50/visit even though their CEO

took a 26 million dollar salary (including his stock options) last year., This

represents less per visit than I earned in 1983 in a dollar that has lost most

of its value (back then, gas was about $1.00 per gallon). They are a true

criminal enterprise.

management of TRICARE.

To those of you who do not already know this, ACN is the claims management

entity that handles all United Health Care claims and sets the coverage

guidelines for UHC. ACN is the acronym for American Chiropractic Network.

Need I say more? Our reimbursement in Arkansas for UHC patients has been

$45 per visit for years. We opted out of network long ago because, as Neil

states, they are a criminal entity.

Please take a second to follow through with the suggestion of telling tricare of

the atrocities of ACN management. We will all benefit only if we all act now.

I contacted my Tricare representative and gave them the heads up. They asked me

to fax tthe letter from United to them. They sent out a letter notifying their

providers that " TriWest is commited to doing whatever it takes to retain

exceptional providers so that the military community has convenient access to

quality healthcare services. "

Hi Laurie, what is the exact fax #? We all need to send information or comment

to Tricare at the SAME location so they understand the depth or resistance to

United/ACN.

I spoke with our local Tricare Rep and she, in essence, said that if we are

already a part of Tricare then we are supporting them.  She mentioned that we

can contact the government, as they are the ones to make the final decision. 

But she didn't feel that ACN had any chance of taking over the contract.

I did try to contact ACN about the contract, but they wanted my name, phone

number, etc before talking to me about it.  So, I got off the phone.

For anyone who may be willing, I would recommend you contact your Federal

Legislators. I know that RI Senator Jack is very much involved in these

decisions and I have sent him the following letter:

Dear Senator ,

It has come to the attention of the Physical Therpist community throughout

the country that ACN, a United Healthcare company, is interested in managing

Tricare. I would like you to know that the Physical Therapists in Rhode

Island would strongly oppose this arrangement. As the Legislative Chair and a

member of the Reimbursement Committee for our state's PT Chapter, I would let

you know that the complaints regarding ACN / United Healthcare top our list.

They are not only unresponsive to providers but they micromanage care. And,

as a practice owner, I have seen the displeasure of their members in their

overburdance of paperwork and their denial of service based upon ACN's " data " .

Their data would appear to be skewed, as it is based upon their client

population that is managed by number of visits, not by outcome.

I know of several PT practices in Rhode Island that currently do not accept

ACN / United members and this will limit the accessabiliIity of care for our

military families. I strongly recommend the Government look elsewhere.
