How do you charge 2-3 units per eval when this is a service based code (at least

for Part B)? Do you have billing units for inpatient based on 15 minute

increments?

We expect 10 - 12 visits per day with 22-24 billable units.

Generally we expect 2 - 3 units per evaluation on average. Sometimes

the inpatient eval takes only 30 " but outpatient can often take 45 " .

Our therapists do Speech and Swallow evaluations on inpatients, and

Modified Barium Swallow studies for inpatients and outpatients. The

hospital therapists do not see outpatients -- we have an off-site

location for PT, OT & ST outpatients.

spending an excessive amount of time to complete their evaluations

include Speech and Swallow evaluations, Modified Barium Swallow

industry standards for acute care SLP's for # pt's seen per day,

expected # of units to complete assessments, and total productive

I know this is a topic that seems to surface regularly - but I am hoping to

get some feedback from the group on productivity and staffing to census needs

for Acute Rehab

1. Historically, I believe the Acute Rehab productivity standard has often

been quote as 80% - given the rising CMI and patient mix that in Acute Rehab -

is that number changing at all? or is 80% still an industry benchmark for

this part of the continuum of care?

2. As stated above, with the rising CMI and patient mix for Acute Rehab -

what is the nursing/PCT staff ratio to patient doing these days in the Acute

Rehab part of the continuum? And are there any standard/benchmark formulas for

therapy staffing to census?

3. On the staffing to census and on the productivity front - are there

differences between the disciplines - PT OT ST?

thanks in advance for helping us to keep our finger on the industry

benchmark -
