Guest guest
Hey everyone. I'm new here and wrote before asking if there were any parents of autistic children here; we have two. Anywho, my diabetic autistic 18 year old is addicted to diet soda. Bad yes I know though we try to at least use the stuff with splenda at home. He has been addicted to getting fountain (diet) sodas but I am trying to put this to an end; it's hard because going out in the car to get something he likes is an addiction in itself. Well anyways does anyone have any suggestions for me? Either stuff I can buy, make or whatever. I have some fountain cups I can pour the stuff into when we go out on our daily jaunt-- that doesn't always work but I am trying to put my foot down more and have found some pretty cool " Make a Wish " cups from Applebees. So it worked today anyways.... I've been looking up kefir soda recipes but it looks difficult and if it doesn't taste 'jest right' he's not going to drink it. I've tried the sugary natural sodas (I can serve smaller sizes and cover with added insulin) but he didn't like them; neither did I as a matter of fact. OK any suggestions would be welcome; just no lectures please and remember many autistic folk have sensory issues and things have to look/taste pretty good or they are NOT going to consume them. At least mine. (His stubbornness is complicated by his having been a preemie!) THanks! Kathy
