Thanks! I managed not to throw up last night but it was a risk! I

drank a glass of milk with it... scary though because if it didn't work

I'd be off milk for months. =)

Problem is I need to go low carb again so need an alternate to milk for

this!

Do you dissolve it in water? I saw some people are taking salt tablets

but I don't want to buy those as they aren't real Celtic sea salt so

I've just been taking that with some water. Starting slow but my

stomach doesn't like it =) Hubby thought I was pregnant!

How much are you starting with? You're supposed to start small and

ramp up slowly as long as there are no problems - like symptom

flares, headaches, kidney ache, etc. So you should be beginning at

around 1/4 tsp of salt a day and 500 mg of vitamin C, which you could

just swallow in a capsule. It gets more expensive to use capsules as

you get up toward 6-8 grams a day and then it's better on the

pocketbook to get a big quantity of the ascorbate powder. You can

dissolve it in water - but it's really sour. Some people don't mind

that. You can also buffer it with baking soda to make sodium

ascorbate, which the body uses just as well. That's nearly

flavorless and carbonated to boot. The ratio is half as much baking

soda as ascorbate powder.

Some say it works better if you dissolve the salt and C together and

sip it throughout the day. I didn't like that at all and put the

salt in my mouth and washed it down with the vitamin C dissolved (and

buffered) in water and citrus juice - lemon, grapefruit, orange,

etc. That method worked fine for me.

If you haven't yet, join the lymestrategies group

links section

lymestrategies/links because it

has a lot of information.

Thanks! I was taking 1/2 tsp twice a day so maybe it was too much.

The Vitamin C wasn't bothering me at all. I was doing capsules. I was

taking 4 - 1000 mg capsules twice a day with the salt. I've been taking

that off and on though to avoid colds and to help other things.

I can't stand the salt and c in water and drinking... bleh. So i was

just taking a mouthful of salt (1/2 tsp) and swallowing it with water.

Then I go take the Vitamin C pills when my stomach settles which takes

awhile. Right now it's aching =(

I will cut down to 1/4 total for the day and see how that goes!

I am on those groups but the volume of mail is overwhelming! I read

through it when I can and have already been collecting some great info.

I also went to the canlyme sight and I have a lot of the symptoms AND

have been diagnosed with a few of the disorders including autoimmune

thyroiditis, IBD, chronic fatigue, weight issues that nothing helps...

I was even thought to have sjrogens for awhile but that resolved when I

started changing my diet and got off all the Coca Cola's.

I want to have another baby in a year and I don't want to risk giving

him/her lyme! I am already freaking out that (my 12 month old)

may have it =(. Though I lost my breast milk so he wasn't breast fed

but raised on the NT baby formula. Maybe a blessing in disguise? =(

My thyroid has flared up badly these last two weeks including some

intense pain again. Similar to when they were watching it for cancer.

I am debating spending what little I have to see the endocrinologist on

a natural doctor instead. Not an easy decision and pretty scary

really. But even if it is cancer the endo will want me to take radio

active iodine and remove my thyroid. =(

There's a way to change it so you don't get emails - I think it's

under the " Edit Membership " link on the webpage. I always just go to

the websited to read the posts. It would be too much email!

Are you on a thyroid site? I've heard good things about Armour, but

of course you'd want to do your own research, and maybe you already

know all about it. On the lyme group, lots have thyroid problems,

and several have said that taking iodine supplements is key to them

to feeling better. I wonder how much of a toll this water

fluroidation is having on our health, as it displaces the iodine we

need and already aren't getting enough of!

The thyroid flare could be a herx. The areas where the lyme has

colonized most tend to act up as they die there. As the Townsend

Letter said, they are really sensitive to slight fluctuations of

salinity in the blood. Not to make you dismiss something that could

be serious, but it sounds typical of the salt/c protocol for you to

have flares in areas that have been a problem in the past. I had

horrible, tremendous kidney pain when I started (too high) and it was

my renal system that I was having the most trouble with back then.

Of course the stomach and kidneys get the most salt when we ingest

it - from digestion and then elimination, so it makes sense that they

would be the first hit with the herxes.

I had read of Cathcart's and Klenner's work on high doses of vitamin

C and took more than the recommended - up to bowel tolerance for at

least 9 months of my recovery instead of ramping up like I did with

the salt. I think it kept the herxes shorter and more bearable as it

helped detox whatever toxins were released. If I'd known about it at

the time, I probably would have been taking protease enzymes then

too, the good ones like Vitalzym, Peptizyde, or Wobenzyme. I

understand more now about the role of proteins in making people feel

ill.

Just keep an eye on your son. Typical symptoms of lyme in kids,

besides the swollen knees and other joints are leg pain, food

sensitivities, autism-type symptoms, sleep problems, learning

problems, sensitivity to light or touch ( " it feels too scratchy! " ).

My son seemed very behind when I started wondering if he had gotten

lyme from me. I let him salt his own food, which he liked salty, and

gave him gatorade with vitamin C in it, just 1/2 - 1 gram. His leg

pain, stomach problems, and social problems went away really

quickly. When I back off on the vitamin C for too long he seems to

get some return of sleep problems and leg pains, but it could be

drinking iced tea and wearing bad shoes as well. He certainly no

longer seems like he needs to be assessed for autism/asperger's!

Best wishes!
