Depends on the company...if you can offer that person work on a Sat/Sun in the

same pay period to make up the 40 hours, then that sometimes works. If you

offer that person the work and THEY decline, then you shouldn't have to pay the

guaranteed 40. You need to check with the agency to see how rigid they are

about that. We've been burned in the past, so it's always something we discuss

and resolve before it happens.

With a travel contract that guarantees a 40 hour work

week, what do I do for holiday weeks such as Memorial

Day coming up? Does my traveling PT get a paid

holiday? Is that the staffing agency's responsibility?

Or does he get a short week that week?

I negotiate it with the traveling agency depending on my needs.

If I need 4 x 10 hours in the remainder of the holiday week then I ask if we

can switch their day off.

If I need less hours, I ask them to waive that 40-hour guarantee for that

week.

We don’t pay for the PT’s holiday. Some agencies will pay them.

I hope that helps!

I learned this the hard way...had to pay for one holiday before I

realized this was part of the deal. What I have done after that was on

the inpatient side, I scheduled them to work another day during the week

so they got paid for 40 hours, and the one I had on the outpatient side,

she was working 4, 10 hour days and I had her schedule her patients on

the day she was normally off that week.

Each traveling company has their own rules/contracts. You would need to

read the contract or confirmation letter details re rates, dates and any

holidays. The companies that I have worked with have very few holidays

they " recognize " and unless I asked the provider to work on that holiday

(at double the hourly rate), the holiday hours were not charged to our

agency.

You pay for 40 hours if you use them or not. I have used them on Sat or Sun if

needed. If they do not want to work the weekend to make up the holiday, you do

not have to pay 40 hours.
