Guest guest
I don't know the answer to your question- I would be one that would assert that many grains are not a fit, native diet, and that would be my pat uneducated answer. I have also read that the Native Americans did not have resistance to the disease because it was so foreign- that they had better resistance to locally created viruses. I haven't heard any science backing that one up. There are many vaccine-knowledgable people on the mothering boards at www.mothering.com/discussions go to the vaccines section- I'm sure there are some other vaccine-head boards, as well. Guest guest
Native American populations (North & South) had absolutely no historical immunity built up to Western disease. " Guns, Germs and Steel " by Diamond explains how centuries of living in close contact with domesticated herd animals in Eurasia brought endemic and epidemic disease. Europeans that survived built up immunities that were passed down. This did not happen in the Americas. There was no significant disease as Native Americans were unable to domesticate the available larger mammals. " 1491: New Revelations of the Americas Before Columbus (Hardcover) by C. Mann </exec/obidos/search-handle-url?%5Fencoding=UTF8 & search-type=ss & index=books & fiel\ d-author=%20C.%20Mann> also discusses this dynamic. Guest guest
I read that too Ann Marie. Somethng about the?Native Americans?not domesticating and living with the animals they used for food like the Europeans did. Interesting stuff. And good to know that our 4 chickens, 2 rabbits and pet rat are increasing our immunity! Danae Re: Re:Native populations and " western diseases " On Apr 15, 2008, at 7:46 AM, W.
