Guest guest
Hi folks, Wondering if anybody knows about this. I went to a so called " holistic dentist. " Yes, essential oils were used with the ultrasonic scaler. An old gold filling fell out as my teeth were being flossed. The hygenist feared it was caused by decay and would need to be replaced. The dentist was quick to tell me I should be tested for biocompatability for a new filling. I told him that this was a minor issue to me as I had to choose the least toxic of these evils. Plastics are new and who knows what they leach, porcelain fillings contain some radioactive material to make them look white and sparkle like a tooth. So gold seemed like the least of the evils and I liked the old one. The jewellery had been in my mouth for years and caused no problems that I could tell. It just moulded to my tooth. Of course I worried about the adhesive, but the bond was strong and unfortunately something had to go there. The dentist backed off when he saw that I was knowledgeable, asked good questions about biocompatibility- like does the test take into account toxins that could leach from the materials at a later date or when in contact with certain foods? The dentist said no such research has been done on leaching plastics, radioactive breakdowns, and endless other toxic horrors that can occur with materials that are supposed to be " safer' than amalgams. I agreed to let him stick my old filling back in and would undergo a biocompatibility test for the new adhesive. I'm wondering what anybody knows about all this. I think the biocompatability test sounds like a joke as the first concern should be to use the least toxic materials. The dentist even admitted the test only takes into consideration what is going on at the moment. There is no test for future changes and interactions. What is the safest adhesive to use? Anybody know of any good dentists that really are progressive and have time to answer questions. Any good reading materials? I want to be well armed with info as this dentist is like most professionals- chooses a course of action for the patient, books the time to do the work, but books no time for real Q & A and explanations and informed decisions. Thanks for any advice. Oren
