Guest guest
WAP isn't a single way of eating as the tribes documented in NAPD had different dietaries. Are you low carbing? Could you give us an idea of what you eat on a daily basis? Thanks! -Lana On Sun, Apr 6, 2008 at 9:31 PM, jungleen <jungleen@...> wrote: > Hi All! > I am new to this group although I have been following WAP principals for > about 5 years now. > I just had a baby last year and am more dedicated to WAP way of eating and > preparing foods > for myself and my family but I keep losing weight! Guest guest
Hi Lana, I do eat lots of carbs. Unfortunately chips (organic corn, organic potato, taro chips, rice chips, plantain chips which are my fave and i found some fried in palm oil) are my downfall. I eat them almost everyday (yikes i know, but that is my one vice). Anyways, in the morning i don't have time to make anything (got to feed my 6 mo. old son and then jet off to work) so i nibble on snacks at my desk until lunch. Usually fruit (fresh or dried), nuts, chips or these organic dehydrated sprouted bars i just found at whole foods. I eat a wide variety of foods. Lunch is usually leftovers from dinner the night before. Could be soup, leftover chicken, lamb or beef and rice, sometimes i make a wrap (with eggs, cheese, & bacon, or all veggie, or tuna or egg salad). I usually have 1-2 eggs with whatever i have for lunch. I have yogurt and/or kefir everyday. Dinner will typically be a protein (beef, chicken, fish, or lamb) with a vegetable and/or salad, and either rice or millet. Sometimes potatoes instead of the rice or millet. If I'm still hungry after dinner, I have chips. (And sometimes a LOT of chips......eek i really need to cut down on this). I don't eat a lot of bread, maybe once a week of sprouted or sourdough. I do eat waffles (wheat free) about twice a week. I don't eat a lot of fruit either except for bananas. I do eat lots of veggies and drink tons of water. I don't drink much else. I started drinking a little bit of kombucha and I am starting to drink raw milk with dinner to add in some calories. I'm thinking I should add more caloric beverages to my meals. I tend to eat light during the day and have a big, big dinner at night. I cook in EVOO, lard, coconut oil, and butter. I just got some bison tallow from the farmer's market that i will render and cook in as well. I avoid sugar, white flour, and processed foods. In fact I don't eat many sweets at all, just fruit if I need something sweet. I definitely crave salty over sweet. Anyways, hope this gives you all a good idea....let me know if you need more details! Thanks for your help! Guest guest
Jungleen, I too had this problem. And I am pregnant. Instead of gaining 4 lbs in a month I lost 5 lbs. So what I did was add carbs back in. I was eating basically just fats and protein and some veggies. I needed to add in some breads and potatoes etc. And it worked. I am also 102 lbs. Actually when I started my pregnancy I was 102 and now I am 119-120 finally. And 4 weeks to go. the doctor said I was underweight when I started so wanted me to gain 35 lbs. Well guess thats not going to happen. But I may make it to 20 lbs. But definately increase some healthy carbs. that did the trick for me. I do eat lots of carbs (see my post about what I eat typically eat) but maybe I still need to increase even more. My weakness is chips. (didn't you say once that your weakness was ice cream?!) Mine is salty chips and I have them almost every day. That in itself I would think is enough carbs.....but now i think about it, maybe they aren't carbs but fried vegetables!! I don't eat a lot of bread so I should probably add more of that in. thank you for the advice and good luck with your pregnancy and birth! I'm glad to hear that you have put some more weight on. Guest guest
, didn't you say you had symptoms of hyperthyroid? I would look into that. It is very common for women to have an iodine deficiency after pregnancy and nursing. Both hypothyroid and hyperthyroid is caused by iodine deficiency. Guest guest
Yes, those tests are very inaccurate. I have one friend who is hypothyroid -- probably has been since her teen years (she's 32 now). She had an enlarged thyroid as a teen. So every year she asks the doctor to check her thyroid. He always does -- and it always comes back " normal " . But it's not normal. She has all the symptoms of hypothyroid (chronic fatigue, low sex drive, frequent urination, can't lose weight, weight around the middle, etc.). http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/recommended-labwork/?PHPSESSID=d9f0803305aa\ 9cbb915a87211964d60f I am doing a urine test to test for iodine deficiency. Guest guest
The TSH test only tell the doctor that the Pitutary gland wants more or less thyroid hormone. It tell nothing about the functioning of the thyroid. The link Anne Marie gave gives good advice as to the tests to be run, the most important being Free T4 and Free T3.... Anne, has your friend been tested for Hashimoto's? I swore I had a thyroid problem for years... I was finally dx'd after over 20 years of suffering when my thyroid function went so low as to be practically non-existent.... Hashimoto's causes the thyroid to swing between hyper and hypo, eventually burning it out... rather alot like being bi-polar.....with alot of pain....and occasionally falling into the normal range... especially if you get pregnant. For some reason thyroid function normalizes at that time in woman with Hashimoto's. And of course, the docs can't find anything and refer you to a psychiatrist. Guest guest
Has anyone here heard of the 's Temperature Symdrome? It supposedly mimics a thyroid problem but can't be detected by the usual tests. http://www.mall-net.com/cathcart/wilsons.html Kim On Wed, Apr 16, 2008 at 9:38 AM, Cody <lecody2001@...> wrote: > The TSH test only tell the doctor that the Pitutary gland wants more > or less thyroid hormone. Guest guest
Jungleen, not sure if I asked you this before but do you have any other symptoms -- things that are bothering you? If you don't have any other troubling symptoms (which could signal a thryoid imbalance -- this is the usual suspect), I would just wonder how much you are eating since you are still breast feeding. Breast feeding does burn a lot of calories. Guest guest
Oops sent too quick -- I shouldn't have just said thyroid. Thyroid/ adrenals -- since they are tied so closely. Hormonal imbalance. Ann Marie
Guest guest
I used to think CHIPS could be considered " healthy " because the brand I bought only had 3 seemingly harmless ingredients. Organic corn, sunflower oil and sea salt. In and of themselves they may be harmless (except sunflower oil which is high in Omega 6.) Then I dug a little deeper. When chips (and other salty, high heat processed snacky nonfoods) are made, the processing procedures cause ACRYLAMIDES to form. These are carcinogenic. http://www.cspinet.org/new/200206251.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acrylamide Additionally, there are glutamates (brain excitotoxins) in these kinds of products. It, too, is created in the manufacturing process. http://www.vitalearth.org/MSG.htm <><
