Guest guest
My chiropractor prescribed Atrium Pineal Plus and Apex Energetics Adrenacalm. It may feel " wierd " to you when you first start using them because I can actually feel my body relax when they start to work. I gave them both to my 28 year old daughter who suffers from anxiety (and I suspect hyperadrenals like me). The first night using them it made her anxious because she did not know what was happening and has been on hyper-alert for the past seven months with her first baby. She has been sleeping so much better but now she reports that her muscles are sore. My theory is that her muscles have been so tense all these months that they are relaxing for the first time in a long time. > > Hi all, > > My MIL is suffering from sleeplessness due to " thinking about everything under the sun. Guest guest
I am thinking of trying Bach's 'Rescue Sleep' drops because Bach's 'Rescue Remedy' for stress and anxiety works so well. Maybe somebody can chime in and tell me (and you) if it works! ~Leah On 4/11/08, megan.massaro <massaro@...> wrote: > Hi all, > > My MIL is suffering from sleeplessness due to " thinking about everything > under the sun. Guest guest
, Your MIL needs a complete history & background to rule out all possible causes. Then remembering that there really is no such thing as a cause that needs to be diagnosed, I would seek out professional help. Sometimes sedative herbs, etc. have a contraindicated effect, especially if the insomnia has some organic cause, you or your doc may find that sedatives help little & may not be worth all the side effects, herbal or not. The key is balance, & I believe that kind of homeostasis, can be found in WAPF. Can anyone recommend foods in particular, or herbs/supplements that might help her? Thanks much! She could try melatonin supplementation, but even before that she should make sure that her bedroom is COMPLETELY pitch dark at night. Get black out shades for the room. They aren't too expensive. In fact, you can get them at Walmart (about the only thing worth buying at that place). Also, if possible, it's good to start dimming the light when the sun starts to set. 2) Her circadian rhythmn may be off. She should sit in front of a blue spectrum light a couple of hours before sleep. I know it sounds weird, but I have found that it helps. There are actually some scientific studies (really, there is and not just a claim by manufacturers) that supports the idea. Here is a link to a place that sells them: http://www.apollohealth.com/index.html 3) She could try Valerian, L-Tryptophan (or one of its precursors). In addition to these, she should take magnesium glycinate (the other forms of magnesium usually cause diahrrea...glycinate doesn't)....400-600 mgs before sleep. 4) A lot depends on what her exact problem is: does she have difficult falling asleep, staying asleep or waking up too early. 5) It is really true that you shouldn't TRY to fall asleep. That just activates the sypmathetic system. That's why if you can't get to sleep you should get up and do something non-stimulating. Personally, I dont do that. I do lay in bed but just think about something pleasant...the important thing is not to get freaked out about not falling asleep. That creates a negative feed-back loop. 6) It is important that the bed and bedroom be free of associations with work, study, etc. For that reason, the bed and bedroom should be used ONLY for two things: (1) sleep and (2) sex. If you want to be safe, just use your bed for sleep. Use the kitchen table for sex 7) She may need to spend a night in a sleep lab (hope she has insurance) to rule out sleep apnea or restless leg syndrome. 8) Another trick she can try is too go to bed VERY late and get less sleep than usual, then gradually increase the time she sleeps. In other words, if she gets up at 6AM, have her go to sleep at 1 or 2 AM. If she is able to get one block of sleep in that time. Move it back 15 minutes. So if the first night she went to sleep at 1 AM and was able to sleep through the night, the next night she could try going to sleep at 12:45 AM...and so on and so forth. However, she MUST get up at 6 AM in all cases. Hope that helps. Things fall apart; the center cannot hold; Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world, The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere The ceremony of innocence is drowned; The best lack all conviction, while the worst Are full of passionate intensity. -WB Yeats ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Mobile.
