Guest guest
Most states keep a list of all their farmer's markets. KY's goes on and probably a dozen pages so finding that list, if your state has one (and they probably have many, given the lack of communication among various state agencies) that is what you want to get your hands on as a good starting point. My wife was actually given ours when she went for a WIC visit, so the WIC people " may " be of help in this area. Also, do you have a recent WAPF journal? The back of the journal has listing for lots of farms and stuff state by state. There are also some decent interent search tools like localharvest and a few others, but IME nothing is as thorough (though not always up to date) as the state one. Mercola has a few links on his website that list off various tools. Do you live in a more urban or rural or in between area? If you are close to the more rural areas, then pray, providence, and perservance may be the best tools you have... we have been amazed at how many little farmers who you would never find on lists or at markets are out there... but, they can be darn hard to find, though once you find one you usually can hit a whole bunch! Also, with summer coming, small farms may start to put out signs, etc.. in the area, so perhaps get a scooter or some other low cost, gas efficient form of transportation depending on where you are and take a cruise around? Again, it is tough to go solo, so we hope we can encourage you to hang in there. We are fortunate to have almost 100 families now involved in our group, which makes helps everyone in so many ways. But we started out alone about two years ago, and along the way have found so many likeminded people (and educated lots others who are now moving in the right directions;)
