Hi Tamara,

I have managed a lot of scobies because I have taught several kefir/

kombucha classes.

I managed to keep scobies alive for several months in the conditions

you've described.

A batch of kombucha will help you determine if they're ok.

There's a chapter in Secrets of the Soil that describes a man who

used music to help his plants grow. They chapter says that Vivaldi's

Four Seasons has sounds that are similar to birds (especially the

first movement called " Spring " ). I bought a CD and played it in my

kitchen. It could have been a coincidence, but I noticed that there

were 2-3 X as many bubbles in the " Vivaldi " batch with some young

scobies.

The Secrets of the Soil also has a chapter about Sir Jagadish Chandra

Bose (1858- 1937). Bose discovered that plants grow faster in

pleasant music and have interrupted growth in harsh sound.

Kombucha SCOBY question

I'm hoping you Kombucha experts can save me from wasting a batch of tea.

I have a couple of SCOBY's that have been sitting in a small amount of

Kombucha since the end of October 2007, at room temperature, with no

attention whatsoever since I last made it. They LOOK fine. They SMELL

fine. Do you think they are still active? Or does 5 months of

inactivity necessitate that they are dead?

If it is worth a try to get them going again, is there anything

special I should do to give them tender loving care?

Thansk for your advice,

Tamara in NJ
