Too much B12

When I first came on this chat group, I was grateful to have the

opportunity to do a search and read back, even years sometimes, and

find some insight on a particular question so I am posting this for

the same reasons. One thing I have noticed from being chronically sick

for 3 years (and being too sick to work and at times too sick to even

go to the store to get my food and not being able to have a normal

social life and being completely broke) is that it's really easy to

get burned trying to treat yourself holistically. The burned part

comes in when I have mistakenly listened to someone who has had a

strong attachment (for whatever reason) to a particular treatment or

supplement. Of course getting attached to having answers is not unique

to the holistic or allopathic world and one would be wise to consider

it a human condition rather than unique to area of study or religion

for that matter.

I have heard many people and even lectures that say overdosing on B12

is almost a non-issue. Well I take this weird form of it that's stored

in a capsule and it's really hard to measure out the same dosages and

today when I took it, too much of it came out then what I normally

take. Rather than putting it back, I thought to myself, oh but

overdosing on B12 is not something to worry about. Well it is. It may

have methylated some mercury, I don't know but my heart was racing a

bit and all the sudden I got very, very sleepy. I felt drugged and I

couldn't keep my eyes open. I have the worst insomnia I have ever come

across in my life and I never nap but I fell asleep on the couch and

didn't move for two hours. I did some research online and read of

people taking b12 and then getting dizzy or a racing heart. It wasn't

hard to find at all and it didn't take much time on the internet to

turn up reports of this on other chat groups, websites, etc. So this

is the fifteenth thousandth example of me scratching my head wondering

why people have to make such claims. Isn't that what the

pharmaceutical companies do, make outrageous claims and ignore the

side effects. It just bothers me that over and over people will try to

convince you that they have the answer or that a supplement can't

possibly have a reaction other than it being wonderful. I could list

seriously ten times where I have come across practitioners/doctors who

swear by certain things. You would think in all of their years of

experience they would say " Well anything is possible " or " start slow "

or " pay attention to your body " or " just b/c it worked this way for

everyone else doesn't mean it will work this way for you " or " every

body is different " But no, in my experience, voicing a concern or

doubt has equaled mutiny or being a naysayer.

It's hard to stay vigilant about protecting yourself too b/c you don't

want to seem like a difficult patient or uncooperative about trying

things to get well. Not only that but it's the rare example that I get

to see modeled where a person is paying exclusive attention to their

bodies and not being " attached " to a certain outcome. It's hard too

b/c you are looking for the truth and relief and at the same time

weighing what a person is claiming and their motivations etc. It's

really hard. I wish people would just be more objective and make it

more about suggestions rather than " the answer " When you are sick,

it's so easy to be susceptible. I guess it's actually a part of

healing, learning to look after yourself with your intuition and

learning to see past the repeating traps and patterns inherent to the

" business " of healing. All I know is getting better is more like a

journey than a quick solution. It seems to be about understanding many

layers including spiritual and emotional and mental, not just

physical. To me that is the true holistic model.
