Guest guest
Dear Members, As it is noticed that unsafe blood transfusion in one of the reasons of HIV and other blood borne diseases spread in the community, especially in the rural areas, a Voluntary Blood Donation camp was organized by RATNEI,International Health Organization (IHO) at Dr Diwakar Tejaswi's Clinic, Exhibition Road, Patna, in collabration with Bihar State AIDS Control Society and Rotary Club of Patliputra. 25 persons volunteered for blood donation, including Dr Diwakar Tejaswi himself. On the ocassion Dr Tejaswi addressed the media and informed that any healthy person between 18- 60 years with Hb >12.5 gm and weight more than 45 kg can donate blood if he or she has not donated blood in past 3 months. It is irony that even after banning the Professional Blood Donation, there are reports of professional blood donation and that is one of the important causes of blood borne infections. Under the present regulation, it is mandatory for the blood banks to certify before issuing the blood to anyone that the blood being issued is tested and is found free from 5 diseases- i.e. HIV, Hepatitis B Virus, Hepatitis C Virus, VDRL and Malaria. More and more such type of camps are needed to encourage blood donation and to remove the fear and misconception about blood donation.
