Guest guest
Well, today we had our milk pickup, where I got some ice cream and frozen colostrum treat, as well as some beef jerky and brats. The greens are in, so I loaded up on lettuce, arugula, spinach, and some baby bok choi. Also, got some ground, grassfed buffalo to help hold us over until our next quarter cow we ordered comes in. Also, some pastured, organic eggs and sourdough spelt bread. We just went through the last of our tomatoes we froze over winter. And we just got our local, grassfed, raw cheese in the mail. Though we're almost out of beef, we're loaded up pretty good on the breakfast meats from our monthly pickup. Refrigerator is packed! I love our farmer's market and other local suppliers. Can't wait for the fresh vegetables. Bill > > Good Morning! > > Today is Farmer's Market day! Guest guest
I just got back from the Santa market -- met my local WAPF chapter leader there and we gave some new non-WAPF moms a tour of the " good " farmers (organic, grass-fed, raw milk, etc.) One of the moms just moved here from Yugoslavia. She is stunned at how bad the food is here and wants to find healthy organic food for her 18- month-old. She snapped up the raw milk and when we went to the chicken stall, she went right for the livers! :-) I bought some chicken feet and chicken livers from Healthy Family Farms (all pasture raised, never fed soy), and 4 dozen eggs from Rocky Canyon (all pasture, no soy). I also bought bratwurst and breakfast sausage from Rocky Canyon. And some pork spare ribs for dinner tonight. I got a dozen oysters for dinner as well. And some fennel which I will use in a salad -- with arugula from my garden. Going to make blood orange ice cream for dessert! Guest guest
> What are y'all buying today? Any plans? Asparagus, asparagus, and some more asparagus. I crave it when Spring starts, and right now you can get it for $1-1.50 a bundle. I eat it for 4 dinners a week when it's in season, I love it so much, and after its been frozen, it just doesn't roast right. We're going to see about putting in some asparagus beds now that we've moved and settled. Guest guest
The blood orange ice cream came out great! I used this recipe: http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/230780 I used raw cream instead of milk, and instead of 1/2 cup sugar I used maple syrup. I didn't heat it at all. Just mixed it all together in a food processor. Otherwise I followed the recipe. It might be even better with a little more juice -- it would make it a little more orangey. But you should modify it to your own taste. The consistency was excellent. Also if you don't like the texture of the zest (it's not very noticable but you might not like it), you could strain it out. I liked it, though. Ann Marie On Apr 19, 2008, at 3:13 PM, michelle5s wrote: > PLEASE...PLEASE...PLEASE Can you post your Blood Orange Ice Cream > recipe ????????
