Guest guest
Wool and mmmmmm-s.... shh....I never say that word out loud for fear I'll draw 'em. :-) I use a lot of wool. I live where it's often cold and sometimes damp, wool beats anything else for utility in those conditions. Well over 75% of my textiles, including curtains, rugs, etc, are wool, or hair products (goat--mohair, cashmere, cashgora, camel, etc). There are several sorts of mmmm-s that would like to feast on wool; but as a sheep/goat person who spins, knits, weaves, I certainly don't want chemical m-proofers around. They combine with the wool and are not, as someone, posted, removable once applied. However, there are some herbs mmmmm-s don't like. Cedar, lavender, pennyroyal, eucalyptus come to mind, and there are others. Depends on what sort of mmmm you are dealing with....trial and error. But what I do is just make sure everything (blankets, sweaters, hats, leggings, socks, coats, whatever) gets exposed to freezing temps every few months. That will do in either mmm-s, eggs, larvae, etc. I keep a large trash can outside, clean, with the cover, and whenever I think about it, put things in there for a week or two in the winter. I know plenty of folks who just put things in a plastic box/bag in the freezer. Safe and relatively cheap, even if you have to use freezer. Free for me.
