An international NGO based in New Delhi, respected and widely recognized for

working in the field of HIV/AIDS, seeks to recruit a Director: Policy and

Communications for their India Programme.

The organization works in 25 countries globally – with a focus on countries with

emerging AIDS epidemics as well as those already heavily affected by AIDS. In

addition to this, the organization has been providing support to civil society

organizations, especially those working at the community level, in more than 40

countries. In India, with a national secretariat in New Delhi and a regional

office in South India, the organization currently provides technical,

programmatic and financial support to state level principal partner

organizations and implementing agencies spanning 6 Indian states - Delhi, Andhra

Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Manipur, Punjab and Orissa.

The organization is seeking to recruit a Director: Policy and Communications

Responsibilities:-

Reflect on increased global and national organizational priorities on policy and

advocacy work in the field of HIV/AIDS and assume a representational role in

developing the organization’s position on key policy issues at national and

global forums.

Establish the Policy and Communications Department and act as a member of the

India Senior Management Team.

S/he will ensure the effective design, strategy and implementation of policy and

communication initiatives at national and state level, working in close

consultation with the organization’s network of state level principal partners.

S/he will be responsible for ensuring his/her team provides appropriate and

quality technical assistance to state level principal partners in the areas of

policy and communications, thus building their capacities to take on a greater

policy role.

S/he will be responsible for establishing and maintaining key relationships with

a range of external stakeholders in government at different levels, the donor

community and other key non-governmental networks and institutions.

Must Have:

At least 7-10 years of progressively responsible experience in management,

advocacy and policy development within the development sector/health sector.

Excellent technical knowledge and understanding of the issue of HIV/AIDS.

Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of partnership building and

collaboration, principles of NGO support and capacity building (especially in

policy, advocacy and communication). This also includes in-depth experience as

well as knowledge and understanding of working with communities at the

grassroots level.

Excellent skills in building and maintaining relationships with multiple

stakeholders - including key government agencies and officials at different

levels, donor agencies, bilateral/ multilateral agencies and other key

non-governmental bodies/institutions, the media.

Experience in conceptualizing, planning and implementing effective communication

strategies for external and internal stakeholders. Must have ability to provide

technical assistance to partner agencies in building their communication

capacities.

Excellent leadership abilities with extensive experience in building, managing,

and supporting teams, to ensure delivery of quality outputs and team

performance.
