Guest guest
does anyone know anything about calcium channel blockers? my brother who is studying to be a PA told me i could take them for my Raynaud's syndrome, but that i'd need a physician's prescription to get it. is this something worth investigating, or is it even safe? thanks for any information you can share. amanda
Guest guest
Hi A, I can't answer your specific question, but I found that they made me very tired and sleepy- it didn't get better after time either. I've tried all the major groups of blood pressure pills, but none apart from a diuretic that I take mainly for carpal tunnel are tolerable. I have recently started taking magnesium which has had an effect in reducing 'heavy' heart beats, but haven't checked BP since so I'll have to do that soon. My BP is in the 'worryingly high' category but I've had so many years ill on T4 that I refuse to take anything that makes me feel worse. > thyroid treatment > From: Egyptian.1@...> Date: Tue, 16 Feb 2010 13:44:31 +0000> Subject: calcium channel blockers> > Hi all,> can anyone tell me if calcium channel blockers have the same effect on thyroid hormone conversion as beta blockers?> I've been rx amlopdipine instead of bisoprolol, and seem to be going slightly downhill again!> thanks,> A> > > > ------------------------------------> > TPA is not medically qualified. Guest guest
Hi and thanks to all who replied to this. I still don't really know if they affect thyroid function, but will ask a chemist. I've also recently found out that sertraline (anti-d) that I've been on for years, also affects conversion of thyroid hormones! Fortunately I've been weaning myself off them for a few months, thanks to NDT. On the subject of T3 testing. Five or six months ago I made a complaint to PALS about the fact that although T3 was requested very clearly by my consultant (and circled) on my blood form, it wasn't done. I received a letter of apology from the head of the path lab, who said it was 'a mistake'. I had blood taken again last week, and will see if it's been done. To anyone who experiences this problem, I say Kick Ass!, as I certainly will if it's not been done this time! hugs all round, A > > Hi , > I have tried various blood pressure meds under the NHS incuding the calcium channel ones and they all made me feel worse. One sent my blood pressure up {that was prescibed by the heart specialist}, one made me shake and I could'nt control it, another made me what I can only describe as have a " crash " . Guest guest
I have been researching the effects of the heavy metal lead (Pb) on the body. There is very good evidence showing the positive relationship between lead exposure, blood lead levels (BLL) and high blood pressure. Lead also depresses thryoid function. Guest guest
However, you need to be on a high dose - the recommended daily dose of 30mgs won't do it. You need to be somewhere in the region of 300mgs. My husband uses this amount, together with 350mgs Niacin - and yes, I too agree that for him, it has worked. Guest guest
Hi Judy Following Dr P's treatment advice is what helped me. I take less T4 and small amount T3, all the other adrenal and vitamins and serenity progesterone cream. I am the heaviest I have ever been so weight has had nothing to do with it and I do not do the amount of exercise I used to so that can't have made a difference either. Best of luck with it. Guest guest
Unfortunately it doesn't work for me - I've been on 300mg CoQ10, plus 800mg magnesium daily for a couple of months now. I'm thinking of trying hypnotherapy! A > > However, you need to be on a high dose - the recommended daily dose of 30mgs > won't do it. You need to be somewhere in the region of 300mgs.
