Hi Jeff,

I personally used the Zimmer system for about 8 years when I switched to

Davol, 1) for cost, 2) for suction divertor tip and ability to use gun

5-8 times, and 3) for technical support. I have been using the Davol

product for the past 10 years, it is a great product, no problems with

use, no increased time.

Subject: wound care

We are considering changing our Pulsavac treatment equipment from Zimmer

to Davol's Simpulse VariCare system. It allows for the re-using of the

lavage gun up to 5 treatment and looks like it could save us

considerable cost.

Our concern is the efficiency of use and set up. Does anyone have any

experience with this system? Or can anyone provide a comparison of the

two?

I work out of a hospital based therapy department. For outpatient

woundcare, we are currently reimbursed $53-$66 per treatment for

selective debridement (CPT 97597 or 97598)and $0 for non-selective

debridement (CPT 97602) from medicare. BCBS pays $68-92 for

selective, and $68 for non-selective debridement. Are there any

hospital based PT practices out there, with Noridian as their fiscal

intermediary, getting paid for the non-selective (97602)code? I,

too, am trying to decide if it is fiscally beneficial to take on more

woundcare when we get $0 from medicare for non-selective

woundcare....that could be a majority of the cases.

Medicare does not reimburse for 97602 on national basis. It is considered a

bundled service and you cannot bill the patient.

I am looking for a good wound care course. I would like it to be PT

based regarding modalities, documentation, appropriate orders, billing,

wound care team, dressings, etc. I have a basic knowledge of wound

care but it has been awhile since I received CEU's on the subject and I

want it to be worthwhile. I am from the Iowa/Illinois area but am

willing to do some traveling.
