Dear Lee I think I owe you an apology. Of course, lap-band surgery is a good weight loss tool that does work for lots of people. I'd just like to make sure that you are aware of *all* the possible pitfalls. *I* certainly wasn't - not through the fault of anyone else but myself I suspect - I wanted this to work *so* desperately that I didn't want to know that there could be problems. Also, I was done in the early days of the surgery in Australia - I think the problems are more spoken about now than they were in " my " day .... > when a dr try's to put you in your place and give you mis informed > information or just shuffles you round like a pass the parcel you > start to get a little irritated that someone will not let you venture > to the next step! Isn't it better to have a doctor that wants to ensure the seriousness of your request, rather than one who just sends every person that asks to a surgeon? My suggestion is to keep plugging away at him - if he realises how detemined you are you may just get the referral. Take him copies of the research you have done, letters from this list. Make him aware that you *know* the risks and are willing to accept them. If after all that he's still not willing to help then of course find someone who is. > unfortunatly! (sorry if I was mis understood) I I was put on my first diet at age three, so I truly understand. I was counting calories and logging my food input at eight. Eight was also the age when I was first put on amphetamines. So there is probably no one who understands the frustration of being overweight more than I do. I don't think you get to the stage of wanting WLS unless you *have* felt that frustration - nobody would do it on a whim! > have been to as many web site as the rest of you and have cringed at > the painfull stories about what can and may happen. believe me I have > probably spent about 5 hours a day for the last 2 weeks researching > all the sites (wordwide) so please don't think i think that this is an This is *excellent " . And talking here is the correct thing to do too. As long as you are aware, then there will be little to surprise you. > easy fix! cause there is no easy fix! nor may there ever be in my > time! Using the band as a tool is the correct way to approach it. It is a tool that stops you eating too much at one sitting - but you still have to make the right food choices. IMHO, I wouldn't recommend WLS to anyone who said they couldn't possibly make good food choices. There is no point. As I have said before, fatty and sweet foods are usually the most band friendly. And it's *so* easy, when you've vomited up the cereal you had for breakfast and the salad you had for lunch, with that empty feeling in your stomach, to just go " oh a little ice-cream won't hurt .... I haven't really eaten all day " . This was the beginning of my own downfall. But if you are sure you can make good food choices, eat sensibly, then you will succeed. And I wish you all the best of luck! Regards Vicki Cleaver vickicleaver@...
Guest guest
Vicki I appreciate your apology and thank you for it! (*at least some people understand the effort of forgiveness.) in retrospect I feel maybe I was a bit harsh on the DR but I was extremely upset about it! I have decided to try an old DR I used to go to and see what happens there as they know a little more about me! hopefully Thursday maybe I'll go to see them! but we'll wait and see! I have to gain some more courage before I can look someone in the eye and say hey I am getting really depressed about my weight and need a hand! Anyway enough of me moaning for now and I hope to hear from you all soon!!!
