Guest guest
, you may want to consider a new surgeon. Is it only the surgeon that requires the 10% or your insurance. I would look into that. For people who can't lose weight the traditional way it seems kind of like banging your head against a brick wall asking us to lose 10% of our body weight. If we could do that, why would we be having a life altering surgery? You are new enough in the process that you can switch surgeons. Contact your insurance and talk to them about a referral to another surgeon that they would cover. Carol --------------------------------- Relax. Yahoo! Guest guest
Hi Carol, Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, it's Kaiser and it's an HMO. They are very strict in their requirements and will not refer me elsewhere. The great thing is that WHEN I meet the requirement, I won't have to pay a penny. But it's frustrating in the process. Thanks again, though. I appreciate the consideration and thought you put into your response. > > , you may want to consider a new surgeon. > > Is it only the surgeon that requires the 10% or your insurance. Guest guest
Hi , Hope you're feeling better. I totally feel for you. I have to lose the required 10% too before surgery. I meet with the doctor on April 25th. He'll weigh me and set a date for the surgery. I weight 287 now, so if I don't lose 29 pounds by then I get to go home to lose the weight before they set a date. It's so frustrating. I have a band fitted, and haven't been able to lose any weight, and now they expect me to lose all of a sudden. I really don't think I'll make it. But I am putting a lot of effort into it though. I have started going to the gym twice a week and I am on a strict carb-free diet, that promises 10 pounds in 10 days. I'll let you know if it helps. You might consider walking 30 to 45 minutes every day. It's supposed to help shed weight faster. I don't have a treadmill and the weather here is awful (I live in Europe) so I go to the gym instead. But I know walking is better. I hope you lose the weight. Take care, Sid > > Hello everyone. I love your support group, I read it every day. I > am pre-surgery. Guest guest
Hi . I can understand your frustration. Weight Watchers is the best program in my opinion that I feel will work best for you. In 2 1/2 mo. I lost 30+ pounds. You can do this. Just keep going by the book on WW and exercise. Drink LOTS and LOTS of water!! YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Shauna bizzarrea wrote: Hello everyone. I love your support group, I read it every day. I am pre-surgery. As of yet, I do not have a surgery date although I have been approved for the surgery and have all my pre-testing completed. In order to schedule my surgery date, I have to lose 10% of my body weight. The surgeon's office will not even schedule until I'm within 10 pounds of my goal weight and then I MUST lose that ten pounds by the day of surgery. In addition to this, I had to quit smoking. My quit smoking date was October 18th, 2005. For this, I am very proud of myself, and feel much better just from quitting smoking alone. Having said that, it has been ten times harder for me to lose the required 10% weight. In fact, when they weighed me in the surgeon's office my weight was 294. They set my required weight at 265. Since I left the office that day, I have actually gained weight! So, now I need to lose the extra weight I've gained in addition to the required weight. I'm frustrated. I've been on Weight Watchers for 2 weeks now, solemenly sticking to it, and if you can believe this, I have gained TWO pounds! I'm at my wit's end!! I broke down today. I just want to get to the point that I am able to have the surgery. I don't know what's happening. It's almost like quitting smoking slowed my metabolism so much that I can't lose weight even on a 1200 calorie diet. I'm not really looking for any advice. Maybe just some support. I'm fed up with myself and with my weight. I just want to lose the weight I need to lose in order to get to my surgery date. Please keep me in your prayers. I'm 32 years young, and have so much to look forward to once my body is transformed into an active, healthy, fit vehicle. Thank you for having this support group. Guest guest
Hi .....Welcome to our group!! I still to this day don't understand why the doctor wants people to lose weight before surgery???? I know it has something to do with the fat around the liver or something. Anyways if I were you I would try one like weight watchers. I think it is one of the better food plans out there and you don't get board with your food choices.....And you really do lose weight. Just a suggestion. Good luck. Barb bizzarrea wrote: Hello everyone. I love your support group, I read it every day. I am pre-surgery. Guest guest
Hi --- Stick with the WW program and you will lose the 10%, it will be hard but, so worth it. The reasons that the Docs want us to lose prior to surgery are: 1. You are making a lifestyle change, not going on another diet. You need to begin your new, life-long habits now. 2. The less you weigh the less the risks. 3. Your " innards " change and make it easier to perform and recover from the surgery. 4. It gives you a lower weight to start from, YAY! I had my WLS on 9/13/04. I was diligent in the 6 months prior to surgery and was able to lose 63 pounds. At surgery I weighed 368 and this morning weighed in at 168 --- 200 pounds since surgery and 263 overall. Was it worth all the hard work? ABSO FREKING LOOTLEY! Would I do it all again? YES and twenty years faster. Come and join us on the LOSER'S SIDE --- you will love it here and you are so very worth it! Rory G.
