Guest guest
Call for baby boomers to shape up Web Posted: 2/13/2006 3:39:07 PM Baby Boomers are being advised to shape up. A report from the Heart and Stroke Foundation is citing an alarming increase in obesity and heart disease among the 45 to 60 year olds. Greg Ross is a spokesman for the Heart and Stroke Foundation and he says lifestyle changes need to be made among the 55,000 people fitting this demographic in the Thunder Bay region. " " These are behaviours that have to be changed. We live in a community where obesity is problematic. For our society its very difficult for some individuals to get the physical activity they need and people are going to have to start living healthier lifestyles, changing their diet and changing activity patterns " " he said. Ross says a smoke-free environment, reduced alcohol consumption, and a healthy diet are crucial for a healthy heart. The Heart and Stroke fouindation unveiled its annual Report on Canadians'' Health Monday. Ten years ago they presented the first- ever resport on the heart health of Canadian Baby Boomers. The foundation is taking a look at Boomers ten years later. With more than 1,000 Canadians turning 60 year day in 2006, the Report will reveal how this generation is set to have an enormous impact on the health care system and life expectancy.
