Hi, fellow MSers. I know it has been quite some time since I've been on the boards, but

I am reading the boards every chance I get - and, when I am able. I have found so

much support and encouragement from visiting the boards and I appreciate each of

you tremendously.

The last time I provided an update, I was anticipating going for an MRI. Since that time

the neurologist has rescinded his initial diagnosis of MS and has diagnosed transverse

myelitis because I have legions across my spine and apparently none on the brain. I am having a very difficult time. I have undergone a round of prednisone and I am awaiting a follow-up with the neurologist on 26 June.

My greatest difficulty right now is coping. Coping with fatigue, pain, tingling, numbness, etc., and no current treatment except a prescription of gabapentin and provigil. I look fine and I feel lousy.

I am having such a difficult time - especially with my employer. I haven't been to work since 19 February and despite the documentation I've provided to my employer, I have not received leave under FMLA. There is a current attempt to terminate me.

Any suggestions is greatly appreciated. I also need encouragement and continued support.

Please don't be discouraged if I don't respond. I don't have internet access at my house right now, but I check my e-mail when I can. I have learned to conserve my energy and my "brainpower". Understand what I mean; it has taken me hours to complete this post. My coordination has improved somewhat, but only as my body and mind sees fit.

Thank you all. I apologize for the lengthy post.

, I'm so sorry that you are going through this. It is my understanding that there are people with MS diagnoses that have lesions on the spinal cord, but none found in the brain. The article here indicates as many as 20% of people with spinal lesions do not have brain lesions: http://www.emedicine.com/radio/TOPIC462.HTM. Do you live in an At Will state such as Washington state? Here, an employer can fire anybody at anytime, for any reason, or no reason as the case may be. Usually, there is a reason. Sometimes the employer is an outright bully, sometimes the bullying is more subtle and not so easily spotted.Check with the labor laws in your state. Donna in

Hi , My name is Christy and I am a new member to this wonderful support group. I am so sorry for the challenges that you are facing (above and beyond MS). I am concerned about your employer not allowing you to take a FMLA. All employers in all states must comply as long as they employ mor than 50 employees, whether all in one building or corp. Fill out the FMLA that they provided you with and have your Neuro or GP state what medical conditions are preventing you from duties at work (make sure they sign!! I had this problem)...If they still do not allow you to take it, the law states: " Relation to State, Local, and Other Federal Laws A number of states have family leave statutes. Nothing in the FMLA supersedes a provision of state law that is more beneficial to the employee, and employers must comply with the more beneficial provision. Under some circumstances, an employee with a disability may have rights under the Americans with Disabilities Act." www.dol.gov Either way there is away to have something done to benefit you. I hope that you have great doctors, with their help there should be no problem. My neuro even called my employer at the time basically demanding that they take my form seriously. Now I am on disabilty. Take care and I hope you feel better very soon. wrote: Hi, fellow MSers. , I think your dr doesn't know MS. You can have lesions just in the spine. You need to get a second opinion!!! You need to start on an MS med to get things to calm down.Good luck with work. Keep all paperwork that you have supplied them. If they fire you w/o giving you the FMLA you may be able to sue. But you have to have the paperwork to back yourself.Hugs,Shirley wrote: Hi, fellow MSers. I am so sorry to hear that you are still not doing well. TM, I hear, can be very painful and debilitating. I don't have much advice to give, as I know very little about TM. But, I will keep you in my prayers.

May you be blessed.

Sincerely,

Val
