I agree with the 10% idea or for every hundred patient visits there should

be 1000 square feet.

I have found a formula that holds true in 5 different clinic start ups.

Multiply your anticipated weekly volume by 10 to come up with the total

space needed.

So, for instance, if you anticipate 100 visits per week, you should need

~1,000 sq. ft.

This can also be considered the maximum capacity of the clinic.

Another way to think of this scenario is:

" I I have 1,000 sq. ft., how many patients can I possibly see? " . 10% of the

available space/week.

Now granted, I'll probably get bombarded with contrary opinions about how it

differs with various reimbursement models, etc., but the bottom line is, you

can only see " x " number of patients before patients start to feel like an

animal in a barn.

Another important factor is to consider potential growth.

Most practices follow a normal business cycle patterns with rapid growth

with somewhat of " steady-state " around year 5, so that has to be considered in

your long-term planning.

Again, you'll probably get 1,000 opinions, but I've seen this formula hold

ture many times.

Good Luck.

Hello Everyone -

I think there may have been some discussion on this at one point, but I

am unable to locate it, so if anyone has any recommendations on how much

space you think an OP Sports Clinic that serves 350 pts/month would

need, I would appreciate some insight.

Thanks so much!

The simplest formula is that you should be able to treat 100 patients

per week for each 1000 square feet of dedicated rehab space. I don't

usually consider administrative areas in this formula.
