Guest guest
: Thanks for talking to your dad. I suppose, like everyone else, I want everything to be OK NOW, not in 6 - 12 months, but I will just have to wait it out and hope in the meantime I do not put on any weight. One of the questions I was going to ask was in relation to the drugs I am taking and the effect they may have on my body. I don't like the idea of having to take something to get my stomach moving and then something else to stop it. I started on the Adalat on Monday evening as I found the spasms were continuing, and I am at wits end with them. The unfortunate part of those tablets it that there is quite a list of side effects - nausea (yeah I really need that), dizziness, fainting, rapid heart beats, low energy, swelling of ankles and legs - and the list goes on. Thus far it appears the only effect they are having on me is the low energy. I had dropped off to sleep for the past 3 nights by 9.15 and wake up feeling as tired as I was the night before. They say with time these effects will go away. I am a little concerned that there may be new warning on Prepulsid and I will certainly ask him about those. I am starting to get a little frightened by all of this, which makes me all the more determined to get the answers to my questions. Hopefully, in time, all of this will be a thing of the past and I can get on with the job at hand......... losing weight. All have a great day. Esther. Guest guest
Hi Esther! Don't worry about being impatient--that is natural to want your stomach back to working like it is supposed to. From what dad said - you will probably notice improvements around 6 months--that is only 8 weeks away! *smile* I think that the function comes back gradually, so you should notice a decrease in the spasms and then you can cut back on the meds as well. He said the one year was at the high end of recuperating time--with any luck you will be one that recovers faster. That must be hard to have that sluggish and tired feeling all the time. I remember that when I first started on my antidepressants after I had my post-natal depression trouble--it was hard to get one foot in front of the other without trying to land on the bed for more rest which never seemed to help with the fatigue. Hang in there and with any luck you will be feeling better soon. I hope your meeting with O'Brien gives you some of the answers you are looking for. It is terrible when the doctors on hand can not help and you need to look elsewhere--reminds me of when my daughter broke her leg when she fell off the trampoline at a gymnastics birthday party. We took her to Royal Children's for Xrays and they assured us she had just strained the ligaments in her knee--she could not weight bear at all and after a week of carrying her everywhere and intense pain, I called my father and he diagnosed the broken leg from the symptoms she was having and sent us a leg brace from the US to help her recover. Sure enough, three weeks later we had another Xray done and you could see the bone where it was healing from the fracture. How frustrating that was! If O'Brien ca not give you the answers you want, well then find someone who can--like any service provider, the doctors must understand that they have a level of service to live up to and if we do not get the service we require then we have the choice to go elsewhere. It is in O'Brien's best interest and yours, of course, to make sure you are satisfied with the explanations he gives and the plan he has to handle your recovery and weight loss. If not, move on....you will be better off and have much less frustration and stress in your life if you are confident about the doctor handling your case. Some doctors(and/or surgeons) think they are the be all and end all, but growing up with one as the head of the household convinced me they are anything but.. Legends in their own minds some of them. Well, enough of my pep talk and I will now get down off my soap box too *smile*! When do you meet with O'Brien? I have my second fill on Friday and I am hoping I will not have near as many sticks as I did the first time through. I have the mark from radiology last time in permanent marker on my belly, so at least there will be a target! Take care of yourself!! and try not to be too frustrated (I know that is a lot easier said than done!).
