The time I spent at the nursing home - Lila B was there - we met in BE and adopted each other - she is still there - even with Alzheimer's she always knew her Redhead - not my name but she knew me - she was a handful - she would do the ton and the Lindy with the aides during morning dance - she was fiesty

I wasn't there the day she was admitted - home with a major migraine - I went in early as my usual the next day - I say the paperwork where Melitta had left it - too much was familiar to me - I went around to the nursing station on her side = she had already gone out the front door with the night shift - they had to physically pick her up and bring her in - she was fighting and cussin's like a sailor

I just shook my head and laughed - I said that's my Lila - I went down to the dinging room and just as I walked in the door - 50 pounds heavier - Lila knew me - She yells there's my redhead.

Bad days she found me - at that point I was frantically updating charts that hadn't been touched in 6 months - I got the two months I knew about and my boss was charting the other 4 months.

She would come stopping in with a full head of steam - walk over to the big leather wing chair and sigh big and sit down - when she calmed down I could distract her with a guided meditation she remembered.

The first 3 months I even went up on weekends to calm her down - she settled down -

She knows I am a friend - or she did until C Christmas 2003 the last time I saw her - now I don't know

her son and I have known each other since I came home - between the two of us we could con her into her pills - we had a good enough relationship - he said if she wants her coffee and chocolate - give it to her

She is also epileptic - twice she had such bad seizures - I told Steve the truth - I don't know

She broke two hips p she was in a walker - the big pvc one - after the second one - well she didn't have a hip bone and Steve didn't want to put her through another surgery.

The way we found out that she could walk - Wednesday all of the department heads were trapped in the conference room doing care plans - we broke around 11 am for the care plan nurse to give meds - Lila came in and we faced each other - we had a thing - I would put my hand and arms over her outstretched ones - we were both reiki so she always felt the energy

Then the gentleman that was convinced that she was his wife came in - she wasn't in the mood for it - she stood up and started toward him - cussin' him on every step - I followed her - I truly thought that I was going to be stopping a fist fight.

She walked with the walker out of the conference room - all the way around the outside walls of it and up the east hall - but the time we got to my office she was tiring - I suggested I would drive and we'd go for coffee -

We made it to the dining room without blood shed - I went in the kitchen and grabbed two cups of coffee for them and cookies.

I took them back to the table - Lila was mostly calmed down - I waited until I was sure there would not be blood shed - the dietary manager was watching from the wings

I went back to care plans - I guess I was a big drained - All I said was Lila can walk - she cussed Darrell out - walked to my office - they're in the dining room

Everyone burst out laughing

Yes, Alzheimer's has it days - the problem I have with my adopted mother is the history - too much bad and she is still on a roll - Saturday morning and Sunday night

I am fixing meals - not on the stove and feeding the cat - I have been getting the dishes in the dish washer

I am calmer - like a child - I say No and walk out of the room
