Dear Colleagues,

`AIDS InfoNet' is a consortium of HIV and AIDS related e-books (please

see list at the end of this mail) offering free and perpetual access

for National AIDS Control Organization, all state AIDS Control

Societies and 281 MCI approved medical colleges in India.

UNAIDS has pioneered this initiative in tandem with its commitment to provide

reliable technical information to decision makers and thus help in the delivery

of an effective response.

AIDS InfoNet consists of e-books from reputed publishers, covering a

range of important issues relating to HIV and AIDS. Advantages of the

consortium are multifold, e.g., it is possible to share the licenses

for subscribed books across several institutions where users can

access them from the place of their convenience.

The facility also allows information search across the book collection,

bypassing individual book indexes/contents page as in the case of paper books.

It even allows one to track the usage, thereby allowing efficient

decisions on further purchases etc.

The consortium was released by Mr. Naresh Dayal, Secretary, Ministry

of Health and Family Welfare on 20 December 2007 at New Delhi.

The information on accessing the consortium has been dispatched to all

the institutions more than a month ago.

Information dissemination within the institution often takes time (as

also there is a possibility of the letter getting mis-delivered). I,

therefore seek the help of colleagues on this list who also belong to

the consortia member institutions to please give us some feedback on

the availability of the access and information on experience of users.

This will help us respond appropriately for dissemination / awareness

generation and decisions on the expansion of the consortium. We are

also tracking extent of use electronically to assist decision making

in this regard.

Thanking you and with best regards,

Ranjan
