Guest guest
Hi Sharon, I am not a ketone expert but I have observed that ketones seem to be associated with hypoglycemia or dehydration and not specifically RSS. The fact that RSS kids have a higher tendency towards these makes this a problem associated with RSS and not a problem caused by RSS. I hope this helps Ken M sharonkurland@... on 01/10/2001 11:41:50 PM Please respond to RSS-Supportegroups To: RSS-Supportegroups cc: Subject: Curious About Ketones Hi Everyone- Quick question for y'all... As I wrote a few days ago, I'm an adult with RSS and at the time I was diagnosed (age 15, 1981), the was no HGH available and I was past puberty anyway so it probably wouldn't have helped me. There was also little to no information about RSS at the time, so although I had a diagnosis and some physical symptoms that I could identify, I couldn't really say I was well-versed in RSS. I've been reading a lot of the messages here and people keep mentioning ketones. Now I'm curious...when I had a routine urinalysis done a few months ago, it said that I had " trace " ketones in my urine, which is not normal (it was listed under the " high " category). So please...what's the deal with RSS and ketones? Are ketones in the urine normal for RSS? Is this something I should care about and do something about? Or is it just a part of being me? Thank-you! -Sharon-
Guest guest
Hi Ken- You definitely explained it enough for my purposes. Bottom line is, it's nothing I need to worry about <G>. Thanks! -Sharon- RSS Adult
Guest guest
Jodi, Wow, what I just read set the bells ringin in my head like crazy!! You mentioned about the breath smelling like nail polish remover when the keytones are present, and I've noticed that quite often when has the flu. I always take him to the emergency cause of his fevers and febrile sezures. They always put a bag around his penis, just for output, but now I'll remeber to mention about the keytones. The rss never really comes up in these moments because I never knew of the connection. Thank you so much for that tidbit, I'll be marking that down to remeber for next time. Maybe it will help him recuperate faster. Again, Thank you!!! :} Nikki- mom to 6, rss, and Nala the cat _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com.
