Guest guest
HI Amy,Welcome. My name is Addie. I have had UC since 2001 (about 8 years now.)My symptoms include bloody D with urgency. I used to have burning cramping pain, but that has not been a problem in about 4 years. (since giving up wheat, sugar and other things.) I started the SCD 2 months ago, so I am relatively new. I refuse to take prednisone again so I am treating my UC with the diet, sulfasalazine and my latest remedy... about 1/4 of a Rowasa enema with vitamin E. (I add this myself and it seems to be stopping the bleeding.) I do about 2-3 of these a day right now until things clear up.If I can be of any help as you get started, let me know. Like I said, I'm new but I have been having good results on the diet. Good Luck! And take things slow...AddieSanta Cruz,30 yrs.oldSCD 2 monthsUC 8yrs.Amy wrote: Hi there, I'm new to BTVC and the board but not UC. I'm a stay home mommy to my wonderful 22 month old. I had my first flare in 2000. It consisted of 6 months of D, then another 6 months of nothing but bloody D. I didn't have insurance at the time and just hoped it would go away. Then one day is just stopped and everything went back to normal. Things were fine until 2002 & 2003, I had 3 month flares each year of D that went away. I did go to a GI during those episodes but they just did a stool sample and gave me Levbid. I had 4 wonderful symptom free years. Now I have been having D since July. Finally went to a GI and told him about my episode in 2000. He was shocked that I never had a colonoscopy. I had one on 2/29/08. I awoke to my GI saying I have a "very angry" colon. I have mild Universal UC. Lialda worked fine for 2 weeks then I broke out in a rash and it made my symptoms MUCH worse. Tried Asacol and Colazal and they did the same. My GI wanted me on prednisone next. I said I want to try to treat my condition with diet before I take steroids. So, here I am! Day 3 of SCD. I look forward to learning a lot from all of you.
