Good points from and karen about the difficulties in managing the care

of our kids with so many doctors involved.

I am sure that this isn't new to you all, but I wanted to share with you

something my pediatrician helped me create for Dr. H and 2 other new drs we

had who requested L's medical records. I am kind of embarrassed to type

this, but Dr. H and the other 2 doctors loved it so much they told me to tell

everyone.

I went to a stationary store and bought a 4-part multiflex folder with the

metal tabs on the top ($3.75 each). I also bought the heavy-paper dividers

with the colored tabs in descending order (you know the ones?).

's name, social security # and birth date are on the cover.

You open the first section. The left inside front cover has a metal tab on

the top: this section has the following " tab dividers " :

's Growth History (has her growth charts, a spreadsheet with each

weight/height and which doctor, and it has a bunch of copied photos)

Family Growth & Genetic History

Speech Evaluations

Developmental Summaries

Calorie Counts

(In this first left section, they said to keep anything " miscellaneous " )

Second section to the right side of the left inside cover. Another metal

tab. This has all your SPECIALISTS. For , there are tabs for:

Genetics, Endocronology, Orthopedic, GI and Nephrology. Records should be

put in order of most recent backwards/

Now turn the page/section.

I left the backside of Specialists (has another metal tab) empty because the

weight of the front side was so heavy.

The 3rd section is the right hand side with another metal tab at the top.

This is all LAB and XRAY and TEST RESULTS. They said even if the lab was

ordered by one of those specialists from the " other " section, put it here.

Turn that page. Another right hand side with another metal tab at the top.

This is all her pediatrician records.

WHEW!!!

Now the key for me will be to remember to get updated medical records every

so often (and not repeat all the ones they already gave me!)

I hope this isn't redundant for most of you, but helpful to some of you!
