Guest guest
Nagpur Municipal Corporation to start schools for HIV Infected Children Re: /message/8176 Combined posting of the messages from Dr. Nandlal Jotwani Dr. Rakesh Bharti Dr. Divya Mithel Dr K.G. Kulkarni _______________ Dear Forum, I think instituting separate schools for CLHAs would betray ignorance about HIV, which does not affect or infect co-learners by simply studying together. Further, the separate schools for CLHAs are liable to stigmatize the CLHAs and also alienate them from the mainstream society, which will have adverse socio-psychological implications. I believe that the CLHAs ought to be integrated in the society by admitting them in the same schools where all other children study, and it must be ensured that the sex education, including HIV/AIDS and values-oriented education, at appropriate levels, forms an integral part of the school curriculum; as well as the schools are adequately equipped with HIV/AIDS-trained teachers and para-medical personnel who are capable of mentoring and monitoring students and their activities in the school events including field trips, creating an enlightened, free environment of self-motivated learners with a sense of responsibility appropriate to their levels of learning and age. It reminds me of old ways of treating Leprosy [patients. Why not then have all things seperate for them - create another island for HIVers alone Atleast i was disgusted after reading the news item The earlier the project is scrapped better it is. Instead, the NMC should think of making education free for the victims and also create job opportunities for them to have them a independent and dignified life. Dr. Divya Mithel, Jyothis Care center, Kalamboli Email: d_mithel@... _____________________________________ Dear all, The decision of the NMC to start separate schools in not in good taste. It encourages the discrimination against which all individuals and NGOs are fighting all these years Instead The NMC should encourage the admission of HIV infected children in the regular schools where all other children study. OR If there are schools run by NMC it can pass a resolution to admit the HIV infected children in its schools without discrimination Dr K.G.
