Guest guest
Dear BTVC list: Sorry for the probably seriously elementary question, but why can't I use store-bought yogurt? Quick introduction: I was just diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. Did a month of enema treatment, and things went back to normal for about 3 weeks, and then the bloating, blood, etc. returned. My doctor assured me that if the bleeding returns he'd put me on medication for the next 3-5 years. I REALLY want to avoid that. I HAVE ordered Breaking the Vicious Cycle from Amazon, but it seems to be taking forever to come (over 5 days now), and I'm wondering in the meantime how much damage, if any, I'm doing by eating storebought yogurt. I've been eating Stonyfarm and Dannon -- the kind that is plain and lists in its ingredients only milk and pectin. Is the pectin a problem? I did start whatever version of the diet I've been able to understand without the book, and although the bleeding is not completely gone, things ARE going much better. But I'm looking forward to getting the book, and trying to do things correctly! Interestingly, for those of you who are parents with kids on the SCD, I do have a son with autism, and another who probably would qualify as very high functioning autism (as it is, he's undiagnosed). We tried GFCF diets long ago, with no improvement at all. Neither seem to have digestive problems at this point, but I may try SCD with them this summer -- if it works for me, I might as well give it a try with them. Thanks for letting me join this list and post a question so quickly! Ann in Des Moines, IA
