Guest guest
I was making barbecue pork for the guys, and I put some of the Trader Joe's barbecue sauce on it. It doesn't have wheat for an ingredient, but it was prepared on equipment that was shared with various other foods, including wheat. It's pretty strong smelling stuff...that smoke flavor...and after it cooked for a while I was afraid it didn't taste okay, so I took a little lick of the sauce. It was way too much, so I got a can of tomato sauce, some molasses, some spices, etc., and dumped that in. I tasted it again and it was much better. My neck started to hurt a few hours later. By the time I went to bed, I was feeling very uncomfortable. As I lay there trying to go to sleep, I realized that my whole body hurt. And then I figured it out. I got out of bed and went in to get a GlutenEase, but it had been over 6 hours since I tasted the sauce. It helped me go to sleep, but for the next two days I was a mess. The most significant thing about the experience is that I did not react immediately to the gluten. That is bad because now I can't tell early enough and I am no longer a "canary". But it is good in that my small intestine has healed enough that it can digest things. But I'm not sure that I didn't just take 3 steps backwards. I'm wondering if it is now damaged again, and if I'll have to spend the next several months catching up to where I was.JH Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo! Mobile. Guest guest
Hi, I haven't been posting for while, so maybe this has already been covered, but are you on SCD? B/C BBQ out of a bottle guaranteed has sugar in it, and molasses isn't SCD .... if I'm not following something b/c of not having been in the list a while, I appologize. But if you are thinking you're SCD, a recipe like the one you described could cause lots of problems, and it wouldn't have anything to do with the wheat. Either way, sorry you're not feeling well as a result .... beth (husband UC 5.5 yrs, scd 11 mo) > > I was making barbecue pork for the guys, and I put some of the Trader Joe's barbecue sauce on it. Molasses is illegal on SCD. The BBQ sauce almost certainly had all sorts of illegals in it. The canned tomato sauce probably had illegals, too. Even though you only had a taste or two, it was enough to feed the bad bacteria, and give them a chance to multiply. You might be lucky and be able to drop back to intro for a couple days, and then proceed forward. Or you might not. As a taste-tester cook myself, that's why I will NOT prepare anything non SCD. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
