Whole Foods was a nightmare - you couldn't move in that store, let alone shop. So I decided to try Trader Joe's instead. I found some stuff, but I have a few questions:-Is almond meal the same as almond flour? The meal was all I could find. Yes, they are the same thing. -Where exactly can I find dry curd? I looked where the cottage cheese was and all I found was "small curd cottage cheese." Is this the same? It had some illegal ingredients in it. It is also under the name farmer's cheese and is going to be located in the harder cheeses section. I also looked by the regular cottage cheese my first time. The next time I asked the guy in the cheese department and he was able to show me where it was. -The butter I purchased lists "pasteurized cream" and "annatto added seasonally." Is this legal? From other posts on here, annato is OK. -The vanilla extract I got is made of Tahitian vanilla bean and has 35% alcohol. Is this okay? The only ingredients should be vanillla bean, alcohol, water and maybe glycerin. Anything else should be avoided. -A lot of the juices that I looked at that seemed legal were from concentrate. Are concentrated juices legal? The only juices I know that are 100% legal are Welch's 100% Grape and White Grape juice and Tropicana Pure Premium Orange Juice. Concentrates are illegal for at least a couple reasons: The concentrate could have been purchased from a different company to make the juice and there's no telling what's in it and it may have been made into a concentrate to boost it's sugar conent. While the sugar is legal, having it in that large of a quantity could be bad. Make sure when you buy your juice you start by diluting it 100%.Shopping was way more stressful than I thought it would be. I'm kinda disappointed that I couldn't find a lot of the things I was looking for specifically. I'm not very confident with my purchases. Still waiting on my yogurt maker to arrive so I can start the intro. You don't have to have the yogurt maker to start the intro. I was not even able to tolerate a TBS of yogurt or DCCC for a couple weeks on the diet. Don't let yogurt hold you back from starting!!!As always, thanks for your comments.-Marisa You rock. If it is flecked with brown, it includes skins, which makes it a more advanced food than flour made from blanched almonds. mom to -12, SCD 4/23/04 Pecanbread Moderator

That's fine, though more advanced. But you won't need it for the first few weeks anyway. You can order almond meal online in some more bulk here: http://store.honeyvillegrain.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD & ProdID=618 or: http://www.digestivewellness.com/subcategoryitems-digestive_wellness-nut_flours-\ 24- 11.html > -Where exactly can I find dry curd? The next time I asked the guy in the cheese department and he was able to show me where it was. Depends on the store, I usually find it near cottage cheese. But it is rectangular shaped and wrapped up. It is definitely not small curd cottage cheese - that's just cottage cheese. It looks like this: http://friendshipdairies.com/products/detail_product_farmer_cheese.php If you don't get friendship brand, make sure your brand is 0 carbs. > -The butter I purchased lists " pasteurized cream " and " annatto added seasonally. Kedem organic grape juice is also legal and there is the Knudsen Just Juice line as well. (Only Just Juices) For example: http://www.knudsenjuices.com/products/detail.aspx? groupID=7 & categoryID=53 & flavorID=143 & productID=521 Just to confuse you, some of these latter have concentrates, but they were checked out and are legal. So does Heinz and 's tomato juice have concentrate, but that is legal, too. Here is the list of juices at Pecanbread http://www.pecanbread.com/new/legalfoods1.html BTW, there is a lot of helpful info at the pecanbread website for new people, so that is good to look over/study. You can also buy clear honey in bulk at Costco if you have one near you. Or also at Digestive Wellness, website above. Mara
Guest guest
Thanks. I just added almond flour back in over the last week and I've been having bloating and C real bad so I think I'm going to cut it back out and just freeze the muffins and bread I've made and reintroduce it in a couple more weeks. I made the almond flour recipes to help with C but it just seems to be making it worse. I'm just about out of the almond flour I had so when I reintroduce it, I'll try Lucy's brand. I just don't see almond flour being a staple in my house because it is SO EXPENSIVE!!!! Thanks again, Misty Kimble, LA CD SCD - Jan 5 08jodah235 wrote: Hey Misty,At the time when I was starting out Carol Frilegh Greatly cautioned meabout buying "almond meal" from supermarkets. She said it is best tobuy it from Lucy's. A couple of reasons why;The almonds can have skins on them "Bob's Redmill" brand is processed in the same facility as illegalsand traces can still be left on the machines. Also, Lucy's has a fluffier texture and is always fresh.(Don't remember the rest of the reasons but those were a few)JodiSCD 6 monthsCrohn's/Colitis> > -Is almond meal the same as almond flour? Guest guest
Hi Mara: I found the link on the pecanbread site that lists the Knudson's Just Juice line. I had totally forgotten about that since I haven't looked in so long. Thanks for the reminder. Here is the link to Legal Pre-Packaged type stuff on Pecan Bread's website. http://www.pecanbread.com/new/legalfoods1.html Here is the link to finding DCCC from the BTVC site. http://www.scdiet.org/8resources/drycurd_sources.html Misty Kimble , LA CDSCD - Jan 5
