Guest guest
Hi Mark, Yes, you are right...I think there are many different types of CD. Your symptoms sound exactly like my son's. He is 11 years old, and was diagnosed in January of this year. His terminal ileum is also severely swollen and has strictures, waves of extreme pain, and no real obvious " bowel issues. " He is scheduled to have a small bowel follow- through this Wednesday, just so we can know the whole picture. Our son is doing loads better on SCD though, and I believe it is the reason we are seeing so much improvment. The hard part, our son is on 10 mg pred, and the doc wants to transition to imuran. Not sure if we want to do that... We are contemplating just doing SCD a little longer and see if that might do the trick. Our doc says diet cannot cure inflammation. I think I might disagree simply by our experience with SCD so far. Any thoughts on this...and taking imuran??? Guest guest
I don’t have any Imuran experience. Fortunately I havestay clear of the immunosuppressant meds so far. However, I am on the brink of Remicade. I’ve been toldthat even though it does some suppressant too, it isn’t in the same classas imuran, being that it is safer and more effective. I don’t knowif that’s true yet, but if I am faced with surgery vs either, I amtempted to go with the drug.Yes, I too don’t have the typical GI issues that most have…justthe debilitating pain, and trying to get off pred and avoid surgery. I’msorry to hear your of your son’s condition, but frankly, it’s goodto hear someone in the same boat. I’m 38, and it’s toughto be the provider, and wrestle with CD too. I believe that SCD can eventually “cure” theswelling, but tne question that I haven’t had answered is that if thereis scarring, does that mean only surgery can remove it? Any thoughts? Guest guest
I have the same simptoms when I have a flare up...( and no constipation) CD 9 years SCD 9 months AsacolMark Carlson wrote: Hi all. It seems like Crohn’s isn’t always the same, and I was wandering if anyone had the same major symptoms as mine: 1. The end of the small intestine is swollen and thickened (terminal ileum with strictures)The length of the damage is about 12 in or so. 2. Severe sharp pains that come in waves (although MUCH better on SCD!) that last about 10-20 sec 3. NO diarrhea. Closer to constipation.
